Tapas @ La Fuente tapas y bebidas - 1 Borneo Hypermall

Tapas are Spanish snacks or appetizers traditionally served with drinks, not only to help ward off the effects of alcohol but also to encourage you to drink more due to the salt content in the food. In Spain Tapas are served during the day but traditionally served in the early evening, mainly to bridge the gap between the end of the working day and dinner, as dinner is often a late affair in Spain being served between 9pm and midnight.
La Fuente serves wonderful, great tasting Tapas. Compared to Tapas restaurants in the UK the servings at La Fuente are huge! Not a bad thing of course. So be warned, my advice would be to order as you go and not do as we did and order everything altogether as it can get a little daunting. Delicious but daunting, haha!

Complimentary Bread Basket with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar.

Bread comes slightly grilled, great with the oil and vinegar but really comes into it's own when mopping up the delicious sauces.

Setas Al Ajillo - Wild Mushrooms Sauteed with Olive Oil and Garlic Butter.
15.90++

Mainly Shitake mushrooms in this dish I think, it's times like these I miss all the different variety of mushrooms available in England, that grow wild in the woods and forests during the Autumn time. The dish however was excellent and the sauce was rich and garlicy, great to dip that bread into!

Bruschetta Con Tomatoes Salsa Y Queso Feta - Bruschetta with Tomato Salsa and Feta Cheese.
10.90++

These were light and refreshing but perhaps a little bit too much vinegar had been added to the salsa.

Berenjenas Con Salsa De Pimientos - Eggplant Braised in Chilli and Herbs Paste.
8.90++

Now this dish was lovely, a favourite of mine and the Little Nibbler. Sliced eggplants braised in a tomato and onion sauce with a good kick of chilli. Wow!

Patatas Bravas - Potatoes in a Spicy Tomato Sauce.
8.90++

An all time favourite Tapas dish for me is Patatas Bravas, I will order this every time I'm lucky enough to be in a Tapas Bar! This dish did not disappoint, though we thought the potatoes would have benefited from being a little crispier on the outside and softer in the middle, that being said we still truly enjoyed this dish.

Albondigas En Salsa - Meatballs in Brown Sauce.
16.90++

Another great tasting dish, we didn't really know what to expect with this dish, brown sauce didn't give us much to go on also brown sauce means something completely different in the UK. The sauce was nice and peppery complimenting the home made meatballs perfectly. Again great for dipping that bread into.

Tostada Con Gambas, Cebolla, Ajo Y Queso - Flat Bread with Prawn, Onion, Garlic and Mozzarella Cheese.
10.90++

Taste wise this was fantastic too, though we did think that the bread would be a flat bread as the picture in the menu showed. We were thinking more like a homemade tortilla type thing, definitely round! But hey I'm not complaining too much as this tasted lovely.

La Fuente tapas y bebidas is located on the ground floor in 1 Borneo Hypermall. Even though it's quite a large restaurant the decor and dimmed lighting gives it a warm cozy atmosphere.

The Bill : 2x Glass White Wine, Assorted Tapas = 118 MYR

La Fuente's food is fantastic, it may not be the cheapest around but this does reflect in portion size and quality of ingredients, and of course we did over order! Whoops! I for one am looking forward to heading back there, later in the evening, when the live music is on and the drinks and conversation are flowing.
