Laksa & Wantan Mee @ Lau Ya Keng - Jalan Carpenter

When your in Kuching you really should sample the local specialties, two of our favourites are, and you can possibly guess them! Laksa and Kolo Mee. I'm delighted to report that Laksa is again available from Lau Ya Keng hawker centre. Even better is that it's not any old laksa! It's awesome and it almost looks like a work of art with its very yellow egg omelette strips and almost micro-herb corriander, I don't know if today this was by chance but top chefs fiddle around with their food to make it look like this for hours! Ok maybe the plastic dish with calamansi and becalan spoil it a bit, but hey you can't have everything! The soup tasted great and had a deep spicy flavour, prawns were fresh and something new for me, the chicken used had it's skin on so there was extra flavour here too! Top marks and delicious!

The Little Nibbler loves Kolo Mee, but today had Wantan Mee for a change, the wantans were filled with tasty minced pork and veg. Noodles were springy and dressed in pork fats along with char siu and topped with mince pork. Thumbs up all round!

Laksa Man.

Very busy Mee Lady!

Lau Ya Keng is located at the end of Jalan Carpenter where the Chinese Gate is located. There were new blinds going up when we left, which also has a different name on to what I know, if anyone knows the 'real' name of this place, please leave a comment also any Laksa recommendations in Kuching are very welcome!

Kuching Laksa @ Kedai Kopi Kinabalu - Jalan Gaya

I hadn't been back for laksa at Kedai Kopi Kinabalu since I first blogged it back in September of last year, so I wanted to make sure it was still good and up to scratch! I'm pleased to report it still gets the thumbs up and looking around it's a popular pick here too!

Kedai Kopi Kinabalu is located just off Jalan Gaya behind Fong Ip Cafe.

The Bill : 1x Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 9 MYR

Still a great laksa, though I think I got over charged?!?

Kuching Laksa @ Xin Soon Lee Restaurant - Damai

There's a bit of disruption at the moment in Damai, what with the groundworks going on along the central strip, I'm sure businesses must be struggling as the extensive outside seating isn't available. This didn't stop me from taking my breakfast at Xin Soon Lee Restaurant for a satisfying bowl of Kuching Laksa. The laksa here has a nice spicy kick, further enhanced by added sambal and kalamansi juice, the ingredients are fairly standard having prawns, chicken, omelette and beancurd puffs as well as rice noodles. I do love a hot bowl of laksa for breakfast!

Xin Soon Lee is located along Damai's hawker central, as I like to call it.

The Bill : 1x Kuching Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 8.20 MYR

Kuching Laksa @ Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Tien Wang - Lido

I'd seen the big banners advertising Kuching Laksa around Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Tien Wang for some time now, but when I went this morning for breakfast, they were nowhere to be seen! My heart sank, surely it wasn't habis already! Thankfully when I entered the coffee shop the Laksa stall was still there, excellent news!

I ordered the small size, which in my opinion was fairly large, not that I'm complaining as the Laksa was simply superb! Nice and spicy and absolutely loaded with ingredients, shredded chicken and omelette, prawns and mee hon, topped with fresh corriander. I might just stick my neck out here and say that this was probably the best Kuching Laksa I've tasted in KK! Big words I know, give it a try and let me know what you think, do you know of a tastier one? Then let me know too!

Tien Wang is located at Lido. I'm sure it's no secret as there's often queues of people standing at the roasted meat stall.

The Bill : 1x Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 8 MYR

Dare I say it again? ......The best Kuching Laksa in KK!

This week is really turning out to be a great food week!!!

Kuching Laksa @ Kuching Laksa Cafe - Jalan Lintas

Now here's the type of coffee shop I like, the name pretty much tells you whats on the inside, and once inside there's only a choice of two dishes!!! (Well, from what I could see). Perfect for that can't decide what to eat conflict - which basically goes on inside my head everytime I go out to eat! Kuching Laksa Cafe serves, yes you guessed it, Laksa, along with Kolo Mee. Let me tell you that if the Kolo Mee is as good as the Laksa you could go inside, flip a coin and be guaranteed a tasty and delicious meal. The Laksa comes with the regular ingredients of prawn, shredded chicken, omelette, beansprouts and your choice of noodles. The soup's nice and spicy with the added option of sambal belacan and calamansi. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Laksa is my all time favourite Malaysian Dish! Breakfast, lunch or dinner!!!

Kuching Laksa Cafe is located along Jalan Lintas not too far from Lido Square.

The Bill : 1x Kuching Laksa, 1x Chinese Teh Ping = 6 MYR

Once I've tried their Kolo Mee I'm sure I'll be telling you to 'flip that coin'!!!

Kuching Laksa @ Kedai Kopi K.S - Jalan Lintas

Anyone who's a regular reader of 'Nasi Chomper' will be well aware of my love of Laksa, my all time favourite Malaysian dish, I just can't get enough of it! Luckily for me The Nibbler shares this little obsession too!!!

I'm pleased to report that there's amazing tasting Kuching Laksa to be eaten at Kedai Kopi K.S. This was our first visit to this coffee shop and I know it wont be our last! It seemed we were in good company, as it was pretty packed, so I'm guessing that this place is no secret to the good people of KK. With three sizes of Laksa to choose from we opted for medium, which I'm so pleased about, mainly because The Little Nibbler couldn't quite finish, so I ended up with a little bit of extra deliciousness! The soup was nice and spicy with shredded chicken, omelette and juicy prawns.

Kedai Kopi K.S is located along Jalan Lintas not far from Lido Square Food Court. As well as Laksa there's Chinese BBQ meats available, which also looked very tasty and popular too.

The Bill : 2x Kuching Laksa, 1x Kitchai Ping, 1x Kopi C Ping = 16 MYR

Another great spot for a great tasting Laksa, Kuching style!

Kuching Laksa @ Kedai Kopi Kinabalu - Jalan Gaya

I may have a problem, I think I'm addicted to Laksa! In search of a new fix I stumbled across Kedai Kopi Kinabalu, where they serve a fabulous Kuching Laksa, I have to say, that from my first visit this Laksa is right up there with the best! Only time will tell if, after more visits and continual approval by me, that it could rank with the likes of Kedai Kopi Yee Fung and Success Delicatessen Shop, which at the moment are my two very favourite Laksa Places! Leave a comment and tell me yours!

The Laksa was full of great ingredients in a wonderful spicy soup ......... Mmmmm I think I want another one!

Kedai Kopi Kinabalu isn't strictly on Jalan Gaya, it's actually a block back, behind Fong Ip Cafe.

The Bill : 1x Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 7 MYR

Another winning Laksa in the heart of KK!

Kuching Laksa @ Ron's Kopitiam - Foh Sang

I love Laksa anytime of the day! But I've noticed it's hard to find in the evening, maybe I'm not looking in the right places??? So when I drove past Ron's Kopitiam recently and saw the sign for Kuching Laksa served from 3 - 11pm I couldn't have been more happier!
Both me and the Little Nibbler agreed this was a great tasting Laksa with generous ingredients served in a wonderfully spicy broth.

Chinese Teh Ping and Kitchai Ping.

Not having been in Ron's for a while there seems to be some new vendors operating from inside the coffee shop, not only the guys selling Kuching Laksa but also on offer was Fried Porridge which we were assured was a new taste for KK, maybe next time!

The Bill : 2x Laksa, 1x Kitchai Ping, 1x Chinese Teh Ping = 13.50 MYR

Looking for your Laksa fix in the evening, look no further, it's here at Ron's in Foh Sang!

Kuching Laksa @ Nam Fong - Segama

Another Laksa well worth trying is Kuching Laksa at Nam Fong. This Laksa is not as creamy or thick as others around town but maybe this is the nature of Kuching or Sarawak Laksa! Ingredients are plentiful with prawns, shredded chicken and omelette, beancurd puffs and beansprouts. With its dark colour it gives the look of a head blowing, highly spiced dish but the spice is just right for my taste, of course belacan sambal is served for the super spicy lovers!

Nam Fong is located in the Segama shoplots, KK Plaza side.

Nam Fong also specializes in Hong Kong style BBQ Meats.

The Bill : Kuching Laksa, Teh Ping = 7.10 MYR

You don't have to travel so far for the taste of Sarawak, Kuching Laksa right here in Kota Kinabalu.
