Satay @ Madli's Restaurant - Jalan Merpati

I ate here at Midli's Restaurant last time I was in Miri and everyone there seemed to be eating satay, well the old saying goes, if you can't beat 'em join 'em! And that's exactly what I did, then and now! With many choices available regarding satay, I opted for the dinner plate which comprises of 12 satay sticks, 6 chicken and 6 beef, ketupat (compressed rice), cucumber slices, onion chunks and not forgetting the savoury, peanut satay sauce. The satay is of the meaty variety, no skimping here, the beef deserves a special mention as it's imported and was very tasty indeed with hints of lemon grass coming through with the marination process, yummy!

Madli's Restaurant is located along Jalan Merpati, more or less opposite Imperial Mall.

The Bill : 1x Satay Dinner Plate, 1x Teh Tarik Ping = 15.60 MYR

Madli's is a popular restaurant in Miri, come try the satay, you won't be disappointed!

Satay Ayam @ City Food Corner - Sinsuran

Feeling a little peckish and wanting to take the edge off before dinner, I headed to City Food Corner where I know there is a great little satay stall. I ordered my drink of ice lemon tea, found a seat outside for optimum people watching and placed my satay ayam order with the friendly stall holder. The satay here is really good in my opinion and the peanut sauce is wonderful!

Satay man doing his thing!

This branch of City Food Corner is located across the road from Centre Point and behind Le Meridien Hotel.

Satay @ Brunei Satay House - Beaufort

There's Satay and then there's Brunei Satay House Satay! The king of all satay!!! A very fine reason to go and visit Beaufort. Priced at 60 sen a stick it offers great value compared to some of the measly satay offerings I've eaten before! The satay here is thick and meaty, served with a wonderful homemade peanut sauce. We had chicken and beef and both were cooked to perfection and tasted so good with grilled, smoky flavour.

Look good don't they?

Brunei Satay House is located along Jalan Chung in Beaufort, look out for the plumes of smoke!

The Bill : 20x Satay, 1x Kitchai Ping, 1x Kopi C Ping = 16 MYR

Satay doesn't come much better than this!

Local & Western Food @ Upperstar Cafe @ Bar - Segama

Upperstar seems to have something for everyone, so it's a great place to go to when you just can't decide what you want to eat! Normally for me it's the Chicken Curry but today I thought I'd try something different, the Malaysian Delight. Ok so I know it also includes chicken curry, but hey, I like Upperstar's chicken curry!!! Along with said curry you also get a couple of chicken satay sticks and a chicken wing. I was a little disappointed because on the menu it definitely looks like a portion of nasi goreng is included, but I received plain rice, oh well never mind, it was topped with a sunnyside up which is never a bad thing In my opinion. All in all pretty tasty!

The Little Nibbler had the Lamb Chops, which infact is lamb shoulder but who's quibbling! A generous portion of lamb along with fries, coleslaw and African sauce. Now what makes this sauce African we really don't know, but it has a nice, spicy peppery kick.

All washed down with a couple of Heineken sets!

This branch of Upperstar is located opposite The Hyatt and is open every evening from 16.30 onwards.

The Bill : 1x Malaysian Delight, 1x Lamb Chop, 2x Heineken Set = 65.55 MYR

Something for everyone @ Upperstar!

Pork Satay @ Lau Ya Keng - Jalan Carpenter

Another first for me, Pork Satay! Have to say, I loved it! The pork was very tender and tasty, great dipped into peanut satay sauce, lovely!

We went to Lau Ya Keng hawker centre a few times in the morning because of the delicious Laksa that used to be served there, but I'm sad to report that the old gent who used to run the stall is no longer in business.

Lau Ya Keng hawker centre is located along Jalan Carpenter at the Harmony Arch end opposite Sang Ti Miao temple.

The Bill : 6x Satay = 3.60 MYR

Delicious Pork Satay, give them a try next time your in Kuching!

Mee Goreng Singapore @ Lot No.10 - Tanjung Aru Hawker Centre

Mee Goreng Singapore is a spicy, fried, mixed seafood, noodle dish. The flavour was curry like with prawns, squid, fish cake slice, fish ball slice and some green veggie. It tasted ok, nothing to get too exited about really.

The Little Nibbler opted for Nasi Goreng USA. We tried relating this concoction to America but drew a blank! Fried rice was served with beef in a spicy tomato sauce with red chilli, topped with a fried egg. Again taste wise it was ok.

The Satay was a little disappointing, quite tough and really dry. Peanut sauce was good though, my advice would be to choose your own satay and not just order from the food vendor. Satay Street as I like to call it is located along the far side of the hawker centre.

Tanjung Aru Hawker Centre is located at First Beach just opposite Waikiki Condo, opens every evening with a few of the stalls open during the day.
Not quite sure of the protocol at this hawker centre as we ordered our food from a menu that had No.11 Penang Seafood on it but our  food came from No.10. One of lifes little mysteries!

The Bill : 1x Mee Goreng Singapore, 1x Nasi Goreng USA, 10x  Sate sticks = 17 MYR

I have to say that from my experience the overall standard of food at this hawker centre isn't great. Which I don't really understand as the quality of food around KK is normally quite high! Maybe I'm just ordering the wrong dish from the wrong stall, if anyone has any favourites and can point me in the right direction, let me know.
