Western Food @ Party Play Lifestyle Cafe - Jalan Gaya

Party Play are well placed in KK, but for me their Jalan Gaya branch is favourite, though I have to admit I've never set foot in 'Playground' at City Mall. Party Play Jalan Gaya occupies an old Chinese shop house with modern decor and live music, it's a great place to eat, drink, relax and catch up with friends. Tonight I opted for their club sandwich, a double decked messy affair with chicken, cheese, salad, fried egg and turkey ham, all bursting to escape the confines of their three layers of bread. Nacho chips come as a side, as well as Party Play's side salad, dressed with sesame that comes with everything!?! This would be my only complaint. I also ordered some waffle chips and extra mayo (which does cost extra).

Fish n Chips for The Little Nibbler, 2 pieces of fish fillet in a nice crispy batter served with chips, a dip and lemon slice, oh and of course that sesame dressed salad.

Party Play is easily located along Jalan Gaya.

The Bill : 1x Club Sandwich, 1x Fish n Chips, 1x Waffle Chips, 1x Mayo, 1x Calamansi Juice, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 63.10 MYR

Good food, great surroundings, that's Party Play @ Jalan Gaya!

Fish Katsu Sandwich @ 1 Bites Sandwich Cafe - Wisma Sabah

I had a very enjoyable lunch today at 1 Bites Sandwich Cafe, thanks to their Fish Katsu Sandwich. It's not just sandwiches on offer at this small but perfectly formed cafe, Japanese food takes preference with sushi and 'over' rice meals. I opted for a sandwich today, but will definitely return to sample their other offerings. Back to the fish katsu, this was actually a deep fried fish fillet in bread crumbs, served in a soft, toasted roll with lettuce, cucumber and tomato and your choice of sauces, In my case chilli and mayo! Hot n tasty n hit the spot!

1 Bites is located on the ground floor of Wisma Sabah, across the road from Wisma Merdeka.

The Bill : 1x Fish Katsu, 1x Coke = 7.50 MYR

Sandwiches and more @ 1 Bites!

*UPDATE 22/05/13 - I noticed today while having my lunch at Blue Ginger Cafe that 1 Bites Sandwich Cafe is no longer in operation at Wisma Sabah*

Pulled Pork Sandwich @ Marry Me Sandowichi ! - Jalan Gaya

I've been meaning to sample the sandwiches at the curiously named Marry Me Sandowichi ! for quite some time now, their pulled pork definitely caught my attention! Last time I tried to get one they were sold out, and if my memory is correct, it was quite early on in the day too! Thankfully my luck was in this lunch time and I hastily ordered the hot pulled pork sandwich with teriyaki. The toasted sandwich comes loaded with said pulled pork in teriyaki sauce, tomatoes, lettuce and mayo with the added options of extra cheese, gherkins or fries. I had mine without the extras and it was so good, juicy and delicious! The pulled pork is pretty awesome!!!

Marry Me Sandowichi ! occupies a corner of Kedai Kopi Sen Chong Wah along Jalan Gaya. For anybody who hasn't visited this coffee shop, it's very interesting with lots of pictures and information regarding the history of the shop, Jalan Gaya and KK.

 The sandwich master at work!

The Bill : 1x Sandowichi, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 9.30 MYR

Who can resist a yummy pulled pork sandwich, not the Nasi Chomper, that's for sure!!!

Curry & Subs @ Seven Sea - Marketplace 88

This was our first visit to Seven Sea, a justifiably popular restaurant, it won't be our last! With my first choice regrettably not available I opted for the Yoghurt Curry Chicken with buttered rice.   A generous portion of boneless chicken, a rarity in KK, in a mildly spiced, creamy, curry sauce along with some chunks of potato. This was a tasty dish, maybe a little oily, but this didn't effect my overall enjoyment.

I have to say, I was a little envious when The Nibbler's Philly Cheese Steak arrived, it was huge!!! Tender strips of steak with fried onion and green pepper inside a massive wholemeal submarine roll, lettuce, mustard and of course Philly cheese was also in the mix. This is definitely a sandwich lovers sandwich!
I fancy one right now!!!

Seven Sea occupies a corner lot at Marketplace 88.

The Bill : 1x Chicken Curry, 1x Philly Cheese Steak, 1x Ice Lemon Tea, 1x Ice Coffee = 43.80 MYR

I can't wait for our next visit!!!

Western Food @ Chilli Vanilla - Downtown

Back at Chilli Vanilla today for a late lunch/early dinner??? Feeling hungry I ordered the Hungarian Goulash which sounded nice and filling, beef stew with potatoes, Hungarian paprika, handmade pasta and freshly baked bread. Though it tasted fantastic, the beef was so tender from an obvious lengthy cooking time, the portion did little to dent my hunger. More potatoes or thicker chunks of bread are needed to make it a more satisfying meal. Also I couldn't find the handmade pasta only a few pieces of orzo, I think thats what it's called, which is a rice shaped pasta. I must stress though it was very tasty!

The Little Nibbler opted for the Cheesy Chicken Sandwhich, a tasty sandwich of grilled chicken, melted cheese, tatar sauce topped with a sunnyside up. The freshly baked bread is a real hit with the nibbler!
We also took advantage of happy hour and had a leisurely glass or two of house white wine!

The cakes are also really delicious at Chilli Vanilla, the Carrot Cake and Chocolate Brownie took our fancy. The Chocolate Brownie won our Vote!

Chilli Vanilla has nice clean decor and very friendly staff.

The Bill : 1x Hungarian Goulash, 1x Cheesy Chicken, 2x Cake, 4x White Wine = 107.10 MYR

Great food at Chilli Vanilla, they just need to carb that Goulash up! Haha

Sandwiches @ Chilli Vanilla - Downtown

I had high hopes for our lunch today at Chilli Vanilla, on a previous visit we had an absolutely fantastic dinner here. I have to say that as far as the sandwiches themselves were concerned there were no problems, absolutely delicious. It was the sides that let them, and me down today.
I ordered the Cheesy Chicken Sandwich, grilled chicken with tatar sauce, melted cheese and topped with a sunny side up, fantastic with great taste and wonderful bread, which is often hard to find in KK! Unfortunately the Chunky Fries (which looked, well cooked and delicious) were on the hard side and almost raw in the middle, also there was no dressing on the salad, which it really needed.

The Little Nibbler ordered the Vegetarian Delight Sandwich, tomatoes, grilled aubergine, spicy salsa and melted cheese, absolutely yummy! I know this because we swapped half a sandwich, sharing's caring! Don't you know, Haha. But again the Sweet Potato Fries were a little hard, though not to the extent of the Chunky Fries and again no dressing on the salad.

For drinks I had a Happy Hour White Wine and the Nibbler had a refreshing Elderflower Cooler.

Chilli Vanilla is located Downtown along the road from El Centro, open daily except for Sundays.

The Bill = 1x Chicken Sandwich 17.90+ MYR, 1x Vegetarian Sandwich 16.90+ MYR, 1x White Wine 11.50++ MYR, 1x Cooler 7.50+ MYR

Even though there's a couple of grumbles in this blog this shouldn't deter you from trying Chilli Vanilla, I for one will definitely be back!
