Hawker Food @ Food Centre 88 - Asia City

Not one of our regular breakfast haunts but somewhere I've been meaning to head back too for a while now, Food Centre 88 offers plenty of choice in a shady outside setting. Some of the stalls were closed today but there were still plenty of hawker favourites too choose from. The Penang Kuey Teaw stall caught my eye, so that was that! Unfortunately not all ingredients were available, luckily this didn't spoil my enjoyment of the dish as it was still very tasty, char siu was the main component along with noodles, egg, beansprouts and Chinese chives, yummy!

Kon Lau Mee was The Little Nibbler's pick, springy noodles with added pork fat, roasted belly pork, egg roll and topped with minced pork and chives.

Penang Kuey Teaw Goreng stall, also serving nasi goreng.

Penang Kuih Teow @ Lot No.11 Penang Seafood - Tanjung Aru Hawker Centre

The hawker food at First Beach is a bit hit 'n' miss in my opinion. With its great location it should really be one of the best food centres in KK, sadly it doesn't live up to my expectations. Lot No.11 Penang Seafood is a fairly safe bet for a plate of decent fried noodles. Penang Kuih Teow comes with sliced fish cake, prawns and squid along with thick, flat, kuih teow noodles, egg and beansprouts. It tasted ok and was pepped up with some fiery chilli sauce.

You can't miss the Hawker Centre at First Beach, Tanjung Aru, it's large and lively!

Penang Fried Keow Teow @ Penang Prawn Mee - Lido Square Food Court

Penang Fried Keow Teow is a hawker stall favourite, it's also known as Char Kway Teow as well as other various forms and spellings.
Flat rice noodles are stir fried over a high heat with soy sauce, belacan, chilli, egg, prawn, cockles and beansprouts. Served with extra sambal belacan.
The Penang Fried Keow Teow at Penang Prawn Mee, Lido is well executed, you can tell the dish has been cooked at the all important high temperature by the lovely smokey taste of the noodles. Also for me the dish isn't too greasy which it can be at times. Ingredients are plentiful considering the price, just 5MYR, with plenty of prawn, cockles and egg.

Penang Prawn Mee was the Little Nibblers choice, again another famous hawker stall dish. Noodles come in a spicy soup broth with prawn, fishcake slice and pork slice. At first the belacan seems a little overpowering in this dish but soon subsides when the chilli kick comes through. Again this is were ours and local tastes differ, for us sometimes, belacan can be a little off putting.

Now as the shop has a chinese sign I asked the lady the name and she assured me it is called Penang Prawn Mee, I can only take her word for it! The shop is located at Lido Square Food Court on the corner furthest away from the daytime wet fish market.

Lido is packed most evenings with happy diners.
