Clay Pot Mee @ Kedai Soon Hing - Tanjung Aru

Initially it was the sign for Kuching Laksa that drew me to Kedai Soon Hing, but on further investigation Clay Pot Mee won my vote! Another name for this dish is yee mee, the noodles are first fried and come in a 'cake' form, they have great taste and texture. Clay Pot Mee at Soon Hing's is truly a porky affair with sliced pork and meat balls in a tasty broth with added greens and egg. The generous portion of noodles come sizzling to your table in the red hot clay pot, a hearty breakfast indeed!

Kedai Soon Hing is located in Tanjung Aru, a few doors down from 'deaf' KFC.

The Bill : 1x Clay Pot Mee, 1x Teh C Ping = 7.80 MYR

Yummy yee mee, can't wait to try the Kuching laksa on my next visit!

Coffee & Dessert @ LVE - Tanjung Aru

LVE is a newly opened eatery at possibly KK's newest hotel. The bistro is set to the side of the hotel lobby, it's very smart, modern and clean with some funky artworks adorning the walls, not only that the staff are friendly too, excellent! Not wanting a full meal and looking for a snack, the offer of free coffee with a dessert was too much too resist. I can't remember the last time I've eaten crumble, so to see it on the menu was good news for me, sweet caramalised apples with a touch of spice topped with a light crumble, served with a caramel sauce, delicious!

The Little Nibbler opted for a chocolate fix with the dusted chocolate fondant, drizzled with a mint infused, creamy sauce. Now this is one serious dessert, chocolate pudding lovers should be on high alert.....this was awesome! Scoll down to see more!

LVE is located in Tanjung Aru @ Chaya Hotel, it's very easily spotted from Jalan Mat. Salleh.

Now that's what you call a chocolate melting pudding!

The Bill : 1x Apple Crumble, 1x Dusted Chocolate Fondant, 2x Coffee = 27.84 MYR

With desserts this good it's looking very promising for LVE!

Nasi Campur @ Fatimah Cafe - Tanjung Aru Plaza

Lunch today was at Fatimah Cafe, a busy eatery in Tanjung Aru. This was my first time eating here and after today I think it may well be a regular of my lunchtime venues! After having a good look at the nasi campur, I selected black pepper beef, stir fried four angled beans and aubergine. The food quality was top notch and tasted great. Aromatic black pepper sauce goes so well with beef along with onions and peppers, the four angled beans were cooked to perfection and still crisp and the aubergine was very tasty too, with (luckily for me) only a slight hint of belacan.
My top tip for eating nasi campur - eat early, the foods fresher and easier to get to!

Fatimah Cafe is located at the front entrance of Tanjung Aru Plaza, along Jalan Mat. Salleh.

The Bill : 1x Nasi Campur, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 8 MYR

See you next week Fatimah Cafe!

Booze @ First Beach Cafe - Tanjung Aru

One of our favourite places to catch the famous KK sunset is at First Beach Cafe. Since its fairly recent refurbishment they've upped the availability of draught and bottled beer. We stuck to an old favourite of Skol to while away the hours. On friday evenings you can also catch the Fantabulous Lola doing 'her' thing!

Stunning views.

First Beach Cafe is located at ........ that's right, you guessed it!

The Bill : 3x Skol Bottle Set = 102 MYR

Beautiful sunsets, ice cold beer and the Fantabulous Lola - Fridays @ First Beach Cafe.

Hawker Food & Drink @ Tanjung Aru Hawker Centre - First Beach

The food at Tanjung Aru Hawker Centre can be a bit hit 'n' miss, luckily for me, today was more of a hit! I ordered mamak mee from Lot No. 5, though I'm sure it appeared from somewhere else?!? Fried yellow noodles in a very slightly spiced sauce with chicken, tomatoes, green veg, egg and peppers.

Ice blended milo from Lot No. 6, ice cold and delicious, sprinkled with extra milo. You really can't go wrong with drinks from this stall!

Tangung Aru Hawker Center is located at First Beach.
Beach side view with Waikiki Condo in the background.

Lot No. 5 & 6, possibly where I bought my food from, definitely where my drink came from!

Burgers @ Lava KK Burger Bakar - Food Court Tg Aru Plaza

Saturday night turned out to be burger night as myself and The Little Nibbler headed to Tanjung Aru. We havn't had a burger from Lava KK Burger Bakar for a long while now, so we thought we'd give it a go and see if standards are being kept up!

For a change I thought I'd try one of the chicken burgers on offer. Salsa Chic is a juicy barbequed, marinated, boneless chicken thigh, sandwiched in a sesame topped roll with salad, sauces and added cheese. Smokey and delicious!

The Nibbler went Indian with the Taj Mahal. Lava's homemade burger, again with sesame topped roll, salad and sauces topped with a fried egg and added cheese. Not too sure what the connection is between the Taj and the burger but hey, The Nibbler gave it the thumbs up!

Lava KK Burger Bakar is located in the Food Court by the side of Tg Aru Plaza.

9 burgers to choose from, all week long! Fries are now available too, but had unfortunately ran out on our visit.

The Bill : 1x Taj Mahal, 1x Salsa Chic = 18 MYR

Beautiful BBQ Burgers By the Beach ... well almost!

Dosa @ CS Curry House (Banana Leaf Restoran) - Tanjung Aru Plaza

CS Curry House has become a bit of a regular for me, the food's great and I can't get enough of their free flow curry gravies and dahl. For breakfast today I had plain dosa, well I confess, not 1 but 2! The perfectly cooked dosas arrived on a banana leaf with a good dollop of tomato and coconut chutney along with above mentioned accompaniments, washed down with a hot, sweet, teh tarik. It dosa-nt get much better than this! Haha, sorry!

CS Curry House is located front side of the Tanjung Aru Plaza along Jalan Mat. Salleh.

The Bill : 2x Dosa, 1x Teh Tarik, 1x Ice Water = 6 MYR

There's nothing 'plain' about the dosas from CS Curry House!

Nasi Ayam @ Balak - Perdana Park

Dinner tonight, well exceeded my expectations! I don't know why but I didn't expect much from chicken and rice at a park, how wrong I was! Balak serve up  great tasting and well presented nasi ayam, not only that but because Perdana Park is well maintained and clean it's also a great place to sit outdoors and enjoy the surroundings. Steamed and roasted chicken were available so we ordered one of each, I had the steamed. The chicken breast was smooth and tasty, placed on top of cucumber slices and dressed in soy. The rice was super tasty, infused with chicken broth, ginger and garlic, talking of ginger, I really love it when ginger sambal is served with nasi ayam along with chilli, my luck was definitely in tonight! Also worth a mention was the presentation, a simple idea that made the meal look more appetizing, Balak serve nasi ayam in a basket on top of brown grease proof paper and a square of banana leaf, it doesn't sound like much but looks quite impressive, top marks!

The Little Nibbler ordered the roast chicken, which gives the meat a different flavour, plus who doesn't like yummy roasted chicken skin? Thumbs up all round, two happy diners tonight!

Balak 'Malaysian Modern Stall' is located within Perdana Park next door to Speggi's.

Outside eating area.

Musical fountain entertainment while you eat.

The Bill : 2x Nasi Ayam, 1x Calamansi Juice, 1x Water = 13.75 MYR

Chicken @ Malisa Flame Grilled Chicken - Perdana Park

At Malisa Flame Grilled Chicken you kind of know what to expect, as the name pretty much spells it out! What it doesn't tell you though is just how tasty their chicken and sides really are! There's also other items on the menu, with local choices and vegetarians catered for too. I opted for the chicken breast in pitta with Malisa's aromatic rice and garlic bread. Firstly I must point out that the bread used isn't pitta, now this isn't a complaint as the bread was fantastic, more like a ciabatta that had lovely chewy texture with wonderful charred marks that tastes of BBQ. The bread is stuffed with a char grilled chicken breast, salad and sauces, there's also a side salad. Let me tell you, this sandwich tastes just amazing! Malisa's rice makes a great accompaniment, with juicy raisins running through it. The garlic bread was nice and garlicy, using the same bread as the sandwich, again no complaints from me! Be warned though, all portions are large, which does reflect in the price.

The Little Nibbler had the 1/4 chicken, which again came with a side salad. Steamed rice and a really tasty, bean salad (surely these four words shouldn't go together! Haha) But it really was! Basically an assortment of beans, onions and peppers in a spicy sauce to give it a kick!

These 3 sauces are a great addition to your meal, from left to right, a lemony herb yoghurt sauce, mild chilli sauce and, well, a fire chilli sauce. I think someone tampered with our sauces as the 'red' top was supposed to be the super hot and the 'orange' one mild, this definitely wasn't the case on our table!!! Ouch!

If you fancy this great tasting chicken head to Perdana Park, Tanjung Aru.

The Bill : 1x Chicken Pitta/2 Sides, 1x1/4 Chicken/2 Sides, 1x Ice Lemon Tea, 1x Glass Water = 40.80 MYR

There's some great eats to be found around Perdana Park!

Penang Kuih Teow @ Lot No.11 Penang Seafood - Tanjung Aru Hawker Centre

The hawker food at First Beach is a bit hit 'n' miss in my opinion. With its great location it should really be one of the best food centres in KK, sadly it doesn't live up to my expectations. Lot No.11 Penang Seafood is a fairly safe bet for a plate of decent fried noodles. Penang Kuih Teow comes with sliced fish cake, prawns and squid along with thick, flat, kuih teow noodles, egg and beansprouts. It tasted ok and was pepped up with some fiery chilli sauce.

You can't miss the Hawker Centre at First Beach, Tanjung Aru, it's large and lively!

The Bill : 1x Penang Kuih Teow, 1x Kitchai Ping = 8.50 MYR

Hawker food day & night @ First Beach!
