Nasi Ayam @ Balak - Perdana Park

Dinner tonight, well exceeded my expectations! I don't know why but I didn't expect much from chicken and rice at a park, how wrong I was! Balak serve up  great tasting and well presented nasi ayam, not only that but because Perdana Park is well maintained and clean it's also a great place to sit outdoors and enjoy the surroundings. Steamed and roasted chicken were available so we ordered one of each, I had the steamed. The chicken breast was smooth and tasty, placed on top of cucumber slices and dressed in soy. The rice was super tasty, infused with chicken broth, ginger and garlic, talking of ginger, I really love it when ginger sambal is served with nasi ayam along with chilli, my luck was definitely in tonight! Also worth a mention was the presentation, a simple idea that made the meal look more appetizing, Balak serve nasi ayam in a basket on top of brown grease proof paper and a square of banana leaf, it doesn't sound like much but looks quite impressive, top marks!

The Little Nibbler ordered the roast chicken, which gives the meat a different flavour, plus who doesn't like yummy roasted chicken skin? Thumbs up all round, two happy diners tonight!

Balak 'Malaysian Modern Stall' is located within Perdana Park next door to Speggi's.

Fish Mee @ Kedai Kopi Yung Hwa - Damai

I've passed by this very busy coffee shop many times in the mornings and peered in, wondering what all the fuss was about! Never being bothered to wait for a table. This morning when I walked passed my luck was in as a table was free, so I took my place and eventually ordered what was explained to me as noodles made from fish with fishy bits! Everything was fresh tasting and I'm guessing homemade, from the fish mee, which tasted a lot like fish cake slices but in longer strips to represent noodles to the 'fishy bits'. Fried wontons, fried fish cake slice, fish ball and some kind of fish ball surrounding a slice of chilli and duan sup were swimming in a light fish broth, but not overly fishy if you understand what I mean??? It tasted fresh and healthy, and I for one quite liked it! Next time I might try the curry version or possibly the kon lau mee.

Kedai Kopi Yung Hwa is located at Damai in the shop lots that run alongside Jalan Damai.

The Bill : 1x Fish Mee, 1x Teh C Ping = 9.70 MYR

Fish Mee @ Yung Hwa, a light and healthy start to the day!

Biryani Friday @ Nasi Kandar Anak Mami - Lintas Plaza

A tried and tested biryani this Friday from Nasi Kandar Anak Mami, this shop has never failed to serve top quality food in my opinion and I always leave happy and content! Today I opted for spicy chicken curry to go with my nasi biryani, this deserves special mention as it was lovely and the meat just fell off the bone. My side of achar was really good too, sweet, sour, fruity and spicy a perfect accompaniment with added pineapple and fresh chilli. The biryani was fragrant with cardamon, cloves and ginger, taking a look in the pot it was cooked up with chicken pieces, so the rice absorbs the flavour of the meat, delicious!

The Bill : 1x Nasi Biryani Ayam, 1x Teh Tarik Ping = 11 MYR

Nasi Kandar Anak Mami never fails to deliver, delicious biryani!

Singapore Laksa @ Kedai Kopi 383 - Dongongan

On the hunt for new eateries I stumbled across Kedai Kopi 383 while roaming around Dongongan. The sign for Singapore Laksa immediately caught my eye, and well, the rest is history! The Laksa here doesn't have prawns unfortunately, maybe we should blame the Singaporeans! But what it does have is generous ingredients of shredded chicken and omelette as well as beancurd puffs along with your choice of noodles. You can taste the coconut milk through the spices, giving you a spicy, creamy kick, yum!

Kedai Kopi 383 is located in Dongongan, by the side of Megalong Mall.

The Bill : 1x Singapore Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 7 MYR

American Classics @ Bomber's Burger - Jalan Gaya

Bomber's for dinner tonight and instead of 'Burger' I thought I'd give one of their 'Mains' a try. The Meat Loaf caught my eye the first time we visited, so that's what I ordered. This one is definitely for the carnivore as you get 2 huge slabs of meat loaf with a pile of mashed potatoes and its all topped off with mushroom gravy. The meat loaf was pretty tasty, though I thought it lacked some seasoning or possibly herbs, but hey I've never eaten American meat loaf before so who knows! The tomato paste topping works really well and I especially liked (loved) the mashed potatoes. I had my doubts whether it would be real potato and I'm glad to report it most certainly is! Creamy mash, mixed with crushed potatoes, delicious! Bring your hunger if you're coming to tackle this one!

The Little Nibbler picked the Philly Cheese Steak with added side salad and drink. It was slightly confusing as we thought the sandwich would contain slices of steak and not a burger, but I'm happy to report that this didn't spoil The Nibbler's overall enjoyment of the meal. The burger comes topped with onions, peppers, mushrooms and cheese sauce as well as salad. We also added a side of Jalepeno Poppers, chillis stuffed with cheese, bread-crumbed and fried, served with a cooling dip, spicy 'n' nicey!

Our drinks selection of Vanilla Milkshake and Lemonade, both drinks were very good but I have to say the drinks bottles are looking a little tatty, time for some new stickers!

I'm sure you all know but Bomber's Burger is along Jalan Gaya.

Bomber's crew working hard and doing their thing @ the grill!

The Bill : 1x Meat Loaf, 1x Philly Cheese Steak Combo, 1x Jalepeno Poppers, 1x Vanilla Milkshake, 1x Coke  = 57.75 MYR

The Full Works @ Jarrod & Rawlins - KK Times Square

At certain times only an English breakfast will do, and today was definitely one of those days! In KK there only seems to be one place to head to for an authentic fry up and that's Jarrod & Rawlins, an English style pub with an attached deli. With 2 fry ups to choose from I ordered The Full Works, this breakfast certainly lives up to its name! Don't expect a plate as this thing comes in, well, a trough! Let me list the contents, a pile of bacon, 2 pork sausages, fried mushrooms, grilled tomato, hot baked beans, hash brown and 2 sunny side ups! This one is for the hungry, it also comes with 2 thick slices of toast and drinks. Today it most certainly hit the spot!

Toast and drinks selection, tea and orange juice.

Jarrod & Rawlins is in the centre of KK Times Square.

The Bill : 1x The Full Works = 41.76 MYR

Jarrod & Rawlins has booze, fry ups and a deli, brilliant!

Chinese BBQ @ Restoran Lim Kee - Inanam

What a fantastic find this restaurant was! I first spotted this shop, or actually it's ducks hanging from the shop front, when The Little Nibbler and I were looking around Inanam for new places to eat. When we returned to Restoran Lim Kee today the place was packed and we had to wait for a table, always a good sign in my book! Lim Kee specialises in Chinese BBQ meats, I for one didn't realise that there was so much choice and variety! We ordered a 3 mix plate with rice and noodles, unfortunately the oil rice was habis and it was only lunch time! Oh well we'll plan an earlier visit next time! So for our 3 mix plate we chose spiced duck - awesome, honey chicken - delicious and BBQ spare ribs -wow! This has to be THE place in KK for BBQ meats, if you know of another great place, then please let me know! All the meats were super tasty drenched in the accompanying sweet tangy sauce, I just can't wait for my next visit!

Tasty noodles with green veg.

Here's the menu, there were lots of orders for tapau too.

Restoran Lim Kee is located at Inanam.

The Bill : 3 Mix Plate, 1x Noodles, 1x Nasi Putih, 1x Teh C Ping, 1x Kopi C Ping = 25 MYR

Biryani Friday @ TFC Cafe Kebab Restoran - Inanam

Biryani Friday this week takes us to Taliban Food Centre's new restaurant, TFC Kebab Restoran. A name which I find a little confusing as there was not a single kebab in sight!!! Never mind as I was here for biryani anyway. At TFC you can have your biryani in a set that comes with tandoori chicken along with curry gravy, spicy sambal and poppadom. I have to say I was slightly disappointed as both the chicken and the biryani were on the dry side, tasty enough but dry! Also I was given fish curry gravy, surely chicken would have been a better option!

The Little Nibbler opted for the kima naan set, a small portion of spicy kima to dip your tasty naan into. This was the winning dish, the naan were as good here as Talibans other restaurant at the long distance bus terminal.

TFC Kebab Restoran occupies a large space on Jalan Taipan, Inanam.

The Bill : 1x Tandoori Biryani, 1x Kima Naan, 1x Kopi C Ping, 1x Teh Tarik = 19 MYR

Would return for naans and possibly ask the question, where's the kebabs?!?!

Curry Laksa Mee Hoon @ Fong IP Cafe - Jalan Gaya

I've eaten a few times now at Fong IP Cafe, normally from the nasi campur selection but today I thought I'd try one of their a la carte items from the menu. As it was breakfast time and it's never a hardship for me to eat laksa, curry laksa mee hoon took my fancy. Unfortunately as laksa's go it was really just ok, nothing special at all, and for 7.50 MYR the ingredients weren't great, 2 prawns, 2 fishcake slice, 1 fish ball, 2 beancurd puffs. On the plus side there were lots of noodles, half a boiled egg and cucmber slices. Taste wise it had quite a spicy kick but somehow lacked depth of flavour. I think I'll stick to the great value nasi campur in future!

Fong IP Cafe is well placed along Jalan Gaya, offering a spacious and clean eating environment with great views along the street.

The Bill : 1x Curry Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 10 MYR

The Laksa may not be the best but other great eating and drinking options are available @ Fong IP Cafe!

Chicken Rice @ H&H Chicken Hut - Grace Point Food Court

Grace Point Food Court is not normally on my list of daytime eating venues but as I was picking up some bread from the excellent Breads & More I decided to kill two birds with one stone and have lunch as well! After walking the circuit to see what was on offer I decided on Chicken Rice from H&H Chicken Hut. As well as chicken rice there's also other dishes on offer with a definite 'chicken theme', stir fried veggies are available too. I opted for tasty roasted chicken with rice, this came with soup plus a portion each of chilli and ginger sambal. As you can see from above it all arrived on a big plate and I for one really liked the presentation, taste wise the food was spot on, top marks all round!

H&H Chicken Hut @ Grace Point Food Court located next to Grace Villa appartments.

The Bill : 1x Chicken Rice, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 8 MYR

Tasty Chicken Rice plus lots of other eating options @ Grace Point Food Court.

Fish Katsu Sandwich @ 1 Bites Sandwich Cafe - Wisma Sabah

I had a very enjoyable lunch today at 1 Bites Sandwich Cafe, thanks to their Fish Katsu Sandwich. It's not just sandwiches on offer at this small but perfectly formed cafe, Japanese food takes preference with sushi and 'over' rice meals. I opted for a sandwich today, but will definitely return to sample their other offerings. Back to the fish katsu, this was actually a deep fried fish fillet in bread crumbs, served in a soft, toasted roll with lettuce, cucumber and tomato and your choice of sauces, In my case chilli and mayo! Hot n tasty n hit the spot!

1 Bites is located on the ground floor of Wisma Sabah, across the road from Wisma Merdeka.

The Bill : 1x Fish Katsu, 1x Coke = 7.50 MYR
