Western Food @ Upperstar Pepper Grill & Bar - Damai

Upperstar was our port of call today and western food was what we craved! I opted for the Grilled Chicken which comes with a slice of garlic bread, potato salad and coleslaw. I swapped the fries for wedges, which are definitely much tastier, also the fries unfortunately seem to look a bit pale to me. The chicken is nicely marinated or maybe coated in a mild spice rub and then grilled, topped with Upperstar's carbonara sauce, not really an authentic sauce but it goes very well with the chicken all the same.

Grilled Lamb Chop is The Little Nibbler's all time Upperstar favourite, a worthy pick in my opinion. Again fries were exchanged for wedges to compliment the two huge lamb chops, grilled to perfection and served with mint sauce.

We also had a side order of garlic bread.

This is Damai's branch of Upperstar, on the same row as Coffee Bean and the sadly, recently closed Four seasons.

The Bill : 1x Grilled Chicken, 1x Grilled Lamb Chop, 1x Coke, 1x Water = 46.80 MYR

Yet another tasty, satisfying meal from the Upperstar chain!

Drinks & Cake @ Upperstar Pepper Grill & Bar - Damai

On a steamy hot day there's nothing quite like an ice cold beer! But unfortunately for me, with car keys in my hand, it was just not meant to be. So I ordered my second favourite drink at Upperstar, Vanilla Smoothie. Basically an ice blended vanilla milkshake with chocolate sauce on top, lovely and cold for a blistering hot day. The Little Nibbler opted for an Ice Blended Cappuccino, as I'm not a coffee drinker I couldn't tell you what it was like, what I can tell you though is the Nibbler gave it the thumbs up!

We also indulged in a piece of Cheesecake, taste wise pretty good but where's the biscuit base? Cheesecake, for us, comes with a biscuit base not a pastry one, maybe this is the Malaysian way?

Upperstar Pepper Grill & Bar in Damai opens in the daytime, offering lunchtime specials, as well as in the evening.

The Bill : 1x Vanilla Smoothie, 1x Ice Blended Cappuccino, 1x Cheesecake = 23.05 MYR

With 4 branches in KK, Upperstar offers reasonably priced food and drinks. This one has a fairly large outside eating area though at certain times of the day Jalan Damai can get very busy and noisy!

Booze & Snacks @ Upperstar Cafe & Bar - Segama

When it comes to drinking in KK, Upperstar springs to mind for reasonably priced drinks. This is my favourite Upperstar to come for a beer, catch a sunset and watch the world go by from their breezy balcony.

I also quite like their Potato Wedges dipped in mayo to snack on while having a beer or two.

This branch of Upperstar is located Downtown at one end of the Segama shop lots adjacent to the Hyatt. Opens daily from about 4.30pm till late evening.

Great people watching spot with views over to Gaya and the added bonus of a KK sunset.

The Bill : 1x Heineken Set, 1x Potato Wedges = 24.66 MYR

A great place to chill out, catch up with friends and have a booze. For me this Upperstar branch has the best location with a great balcony.

Chicken Curry @ Upperstar Restaurant & Bar - Suria Sabah

Malaysian Chicken Curry is a dish that I love. It can be found almost everywhere in KK, it's a favourite of mine and I don't think I've had a bad one since I've been here!
Upperstar's Chicken Curry may not be the best I've tasted but it is still very good and more often than not I'll pick this over other items on the menu.
Generally the portion is huge with lots of meaty chicken in a nice spicy curry sauce, sometimes I could do with more sauce but I'm pleased to say today there was plenty. You get a good portion of rice though I have to say it is often quite dry. Cucumber and tomato come as a small side and it's topped off with a fried egg which is pure Malaysian genius.

Only available at this outlet are the Chicken and Lamb Kebabs, I'm a big fan of meat on sticks so I gave the lamb a try. I'm pleased I did as they where very tasty, pieces of lamb and onion threaded on sticks, grilled and smothered with a sweet savoury sauce accompanied by a thai inspired chilli sauce, not too sure they need two sauces but the thai chilli is great all the same.

To drink I had a Vanilla Smoothie which is great on a hot day, topped with cream and chocolate sauce. The Little Nibbler opted for a hot Milo.

Upperstar's Suria Sabah branch is located on the ground floor at the back entrance.
The decor is, well, full on! With hardly a space left on the walls or ceiling, its jam packed with pictures of all kinds, musical instruments, frescos on the ceiling and old fashioned light fittings. It's what we call in England kitsch, go in and take a look for yourself!

Personally I like Upperstar, though I didn't think I would at first and this isn't my favourite branch but they are great places to meet, eat, drink and be merry!
