Western Food @ Aubergine - Marketplace 88

This was our first outing to Aubergine, I doubt it will be our last! We decided to begin with a starter and shared the Aubergine Bruschetta, 4 slices of crispy french bread spread with olive tapenade, each topped with a slice of baked aubergine with lots of goey melted cheese, and finally sprinkled with paprika and parmesan. A really great start to our meal!

For the main event I chose the 'Say Cheese' Burger. A homemade burger loaded with cheese, salad, sauces and topped with fried, tempura style sliced onions. The overall taste was pretty good, though for me I prefer a meatier texture burger and found Aubergine's a bit too soft. The crispy, spicy fries were excellent dunked in the mustard mayo.

The Little Nibbler bit off more than she could chew with Aubergine's grilled Lamb, lucky old me! hehe. This one's definitely for the carnivore, 3 grilled lamb shoulders smothered in mild harissa and served with a choice of two sides. The Nibbler opted for sweet purple puree and cafe de Paris butter. The harissa adds a nice twist to the lamb.

Aubergine is located at Marketplace 88, on the first block as you head in from Jalan Pintas.

Western Food @ Upperstar Pepper Grill & Bar - Damai

Upperstar was our port of call today and western food was what we craved! I opted for the Grilled Chicken which comes with a slice of garlic bread, potato salad and coleslaw. I swapped the fries for wedges, which are definitely much tastier, also the fries unfortunately seem to look a bit pale to me. The chicken is nicely marinated or maybe coated in a mild spice rub and then grilled, topped with Upperstar's carbonara sauce, not really an authentic sauce but it goes very well with the chicken all the same.

Grilled Lamb Chop is The Little Nibbler's all time Upperstar favourite, a worthy pick in my opinion. Again fries were exchanged for wedges to compliment the two huge lamb chops, grilled to perfection and served with mint sauce.

We also had a side order of garlic bread.

This is Damai's branch of Upperstar, on the same row as Coffee Bean and the sadly, recently closed Four seasons.

The Bill : 1x Grilled Chicken, 1x Grilled Lamb Chop, 1x Coke, 1x Water = 46.80 MYR

Yet another tasty, satisfying meal from the Upperstar chain!

Local & Western Food @ Upperstar Cafe @ Bar - Segama

Upperstar seems to have something for everyone, so it's a great place to go to when you just can't decide what you want to eat! Normally for me it's the Chicken Curry but today I thought I'd try something different, the Malaysian Delight. Ok so I know it also includes chicken curry, but hey, I like Upperstar's chicken curry!!! Along with said curry you also get a couple of chicken satay sticks and a chicken wing. I was a little disappointed because on the menu it definitely looks like a portion of nasi goreng is included, but I received plain rice, oh well never mind, it was topped with a sunnyside up which is never a bad thing In my opinion. All in all pretty tasty!

The Little Nibbler had the Lamb Chops, which infact is lamb shoulder but who's quibbling! A generous portion of lamb along with fries, coleslaw and African sauce. Now what makes this sauce African we really don't know, but it has a nice, spicy peppery kick.

All washed down with a couple of Heineken sets!

This branch of Upperstar is located opposite The Hyatt and is open every evening from 16.30 onwards.

Something for everyone @ Upperstar!

Western Food @ The Chub's Grill - Karamunsing Capital

Why on earth haven't I been to Chub's before? Can anyone tell me? I've seen it before, driven past it before, walked past it even but never set hungry foot inside! Well tonight I did and I'm sure glad too, in a lipsmacking BBQ meat eating kinda way!
The Chub's Grill specializes in, you guessed it, BBQ and if the Flame Grilled Lamb Shoulder is anything to go by it's "Reeeeal prriitteeee niiice"
The Flame Grilled Lamb Shoulder Platter is massive! It comes with a choice of chips or Cajun Red Bean Rice, dressed side salad, buttered corn, garlic bread and two perfectly grilled lamb shoulders in an awesome sweet, sticky, barbecue sauce. So far this is the best tasting grilled lamb I've had in KK, delicious! The only drawback for me, the garlic bread was a bit dry, it was more crunchy than chewy though the Little Nibbler loved it.

The Little Nibbler's choice of Flame Grilled Pork Ribs was equally massive too. For me the pork was a little dry (maybe it was pre cooked?) but it still tasted great and had a hint of Chinese Char Sui flavour.

Not knowing how large the platters were going to be we also opted for a portion of Cajun Red Bean Rice, which really was too much!
I really enjoyed the savoury taste of the rice but unfortunately it was on the dry side, if it was moist I think I'd choose it over chips. Maybe next time.
One other slight grumble were the drinks we both chose, ice lemon tea, although they were free refills it's that ready mixed stuff that tastes, well, weird!
Next time I'll order beer!

The Chub's (Cool, Honest, Unpretentious, Bornean's) Grill is located on a corner of Karamunsing Capital. As far as I'm aware it's open day and night.
