Tandoori Chicken @ Khan's Islamic Restaurant - Jalan Maju

I love food cooked in the Tandoor so I was very happy when I stumbled across Khan's Islamic Restaurant, in Miri, serving tandoori chicken and naan aswell as an array of boneless curry dishes. My first choice was shish kebabs but unfortunately this wasn't available so instead I opted for tandoori chicken breast with added garlic naan. Chicken breast marinated in tandoori spices with yoghurt keeps the meat nice and juicy, this was served with a simple salad of cucumber and onion along with garlic naan and a serving of spicy curry gravy, delicious!

Naan, loaded with garlic!

Khan's is located along Jalan Maju across the road from Soon Hup shopping complex.

The Bill : 1x Tandoori Chicken Breast, 1x Garlic Naan, 1x Teh Tarik = 18MYR

When I'm back in Miri, I'll be back in Kahn's!

Biryani Friday @ TFC Cafe Kebab Restoran - Inanam

Biryani Friday this week takes us to Taliban Food Centre's new restaurant, TFC Kebab Restoran. A name which I find a little confusing as there was not a single kebab in sight!!! Never mind as I was here for biryani anyway. At TFC you can have your biryani in a set that comes with tandoori chicken along with curry gravy, spicy sambal and poppadom. I have to say I was slightly disappointed as both the chicken and the biryani were on the dry side, tasty enough but dry! Also I was given fish curry gravy, surely chicken would have been a better option!

The Little Nibbler opted for the kima naan set, a small portion of spicy kima to dip your tasty naan into. This was the winning dish, the naan were as good here as Talibans other restaurant at the long distance bus terminal.

TFC Kebab Restoran occupies a large space on Jalan Taipan, Inanam.

The Bill : 1x Tandoori Biryani, 1x Kima Naan, 1x Kopi C Ping, 1x Teh Tarik = 19 MYR

Would return for naans and possibly ask the question, where's the kebabs?!?!

Tandoori Chicken @ Restoran Salim - Lintas Plaza

Tandoori food in KK doesn't come much better than Restoran Salim in my opinion. It's a firm favourite of ours for their delicious naan bread and chicken. The Tandoori chicken set comes with a marinated, juicy chicken leg and choice of naan all cooked in a Tandoor oven, a spicy mint chutney and dhal. Simply fantastic! My only wish is that they would put chicken tikka back on the menu. I hope you're reading this Restoran Salim!

We both ordered the wonderful garlic naan. If you havn't tried the naan bread at Salim's you really should. A definite must try dish!

Layered teh tarik ping and ice lemon tea for drinks.

Restoran Salim is very popular and located at Lintas Plaza.

The Bill : 2x Tandoori Chicken Set, 1x Teh Tarik Ping, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 24.50 MYR

Lovers of Tandoori food should head to Salim's now!.....go on what are you waiting for???

Nasi Biryani & Tandoori Chicken @ Nasi Kandar Anak Mami - Lintas Plaza

Back again to Anak Mami's for some of their tasty Biryani, not only that but in the evening they also have Tandoori Chicken and Naan Bread too. There really is nothing I like more than Tandoori Chicken wrapped in Naan Bread, yum yum!
The Nasi Biryani was fantastic as always. As The Little Nibbler and I were sharing this along with a couple of pieces of Tandoori Chicken we decided to have just the sauce from the curry as opposed to the meat as well (chicken, fish and mutton curry are offered to go along with your biryani). Along with the curry, vegetables are offered too, we opted for Achar as this is our favourite accompaniment to Biryani here in Malaysia.

The Tandoori Chicken is definitely for spice lovers of the extra hot kind! We both like spicy food but The Nibbler thought it was just a bit too hot!

Great tasting Curry and Achar served with the Nasi Biryani, lovely accompaniments!

Tandoori Menu.

The Chicken Tandoori Set comes with a choice of Naan, Dahl, small salad and a spicy Green Chutney. The Naans were a bit too heavy for me, quite doughy in texture, I prefer mine light and fluffy with patches of well doneness! These are not the worst Naan in KK but not the best.

This branch of Nasi Kandar Anak Mami is located at Lintas Plaza and is open 24 hours.

The feast!

The Bill : 1x Nasi Biryani, 1x Tandoori Chicken, 1x Tandoori Chicken Set, 1x Teh Tarik Ping, 1x Mineral Water = 23 MYR

I love the Biryani and Curry here, theTandoori Chicken is good too but just beware it's Hot Hot Hot!!!

Tandoori Chicken @ Taliban Food Centre - Inanam

I love the Tandoori Chicken and Naan Bread at Taliban Food Centre, a friend introduced me to the place over a year ago and I've been going back regularly ever since!
A fantastic spicy homemade chutney is served with the chicken along with dahl and a wonderful naan bread. There are different sets to choose from depending on the type of naan you like, here we had plain naans. There's also nasi campur available, as well as other items.

Tah Tarik and Ice Lemon Teh.

Taliban Food Centre is located at the long distance bus station at Inanam.

The Bill = 2x Tandoori Chicken Set, 1x Teh Tarik, 1x Ice Lemon Teh = 19.30 MYR

It's definitely worth the trip out of town to Taliban's for Chicken and Naan!

Kari Kambing Gear Box @ Restoran Salim - Lintas Plaza

If like me you thought 'Gear Box' was something you found under the bonnet of a Kancil, then think again! It is in fact according to Restoran Salim 'leg or shank' and in this case Goat Shank, more importantly Goat Shank Curry. Not that I had any idea of this when I headed to Salim, in search of their wonderful Tandoori Chicken Tikka and Naans.
Upon sitting down we saw the big sign advertising Tham Biryani and Kari Kambing Gear Box, we looked at each other, then back at the sign, then back at each other again wondering what on earth was Gear Box? But with Tikka on our minds we placed our order and carried on wondering. It wasn't until we found out that Chicken Tikka was 'habis' that the Little Nibbler's curiosity won over and had to go take a look! I on the other hand changed my order to Tandoori Chicken and Plain Naan, when the Nibbler returned, carrying two huge plates the mystery finally revealed itself. On one the Kari Kambing Gear Box on the other a lovely looking Tham Biryani.
Goat is a meat we don't tend to eat too much of in the UK, in fact I don't think I've ever eaten it back home, I've mainly eaten it on my travels in India and here in Malaysia. I have to say eating such a large piece on the bone is slightly off-putting, I think mainly because it's so unfamiliar to me, but to be fair it didn't put me off too much, as together we finished off every last tasty piece. It was very well cooked and obviously slow cooked in curry spices as the meat was very tender.

The Tham Biryani was very generous and had quite a unique taste to other Biryani's I've tried, which I just can't put my finger on! It had big chunks of chicken, veggies and cashews all mildly spiced, goes great with the kambing curry sauce.

With no Tandoori Chicken Tikka available I opted for 'on the bone' chicken or plain old Tandoori Chicken, though there's nothing plain about Tandoori Chicken from Salim, in my opinion the best Tandoori Chicken in KK. So juicy and cooked to perfection, their Tikka is fab by the way (watch this space for a review).

Now don't get me started on the Naan! If you want to know how Naan bread should really taste just head to Salim's, again for me the best Naan I've tasted in KK!
With a little confusion over the order we ended up with two, oh well never mind! On the left Plain Naan on the right Garlic Cheese Naan.

Teh Tarik comes 'layered'

Restoran Salim is located at Lintas Plaza the sign says twenty four hours opening. I'm not too sure if this is a Sunday special menu but when we arrived at eight in the evening it was almost finished. Arrive earlier to avoid disappointment.

The Bill : 1x Kari Kambing Gear Box, 1x Tham Biryani, 1x Tandoori Chicken, 1x Plain Naan, 1x Garlic Cheese Naan, 1x Teh Tarik, 1x Ice Blended Orange Juice = 34 MYR

Restoran Salim for me is all about Tandoori, Tandoori, Tandoori! The Chicken and Naan breads are the best in KK!
You really should give them a try and you never know you might get surprised by something called Gear Box!

Tandoori Chicken @ Indian - Grace Point Food Court

For the uninitiated Tandoori Chicken is chicken that's been marinated in yoghurt and spices preferably overnight then skewered and cooked in a tandoor. There are many different recipes for tandoori chicken ranging from mild to hot depending on the spice mixture. For me the tandoor oven is integral to this dish, grilled chicken doesn't quite seal in the moisture of the meat or give the same charred smoky taste. This is probably due to the fact that skewered meat in a tandoor cooks from the inside as well as the outside because the metal skewer is placed within the burning coals also the oven cooks at a very high temperature, around 400℃.
The Indian Counter at Grace Point serves great tasting Tandoori Chicken. My pick tonight was the Tandoori Chicken Cheese Naan Set which comprises of Tandoori Chicken, Cheese Naan and a small bowl of Curry Sauce. The naan can be a bit hit and miss here and tonight it was just ok. The chicken always tastes great but it's luck of the draw which piece you get. Tonight mine was a bit stingy, not too much meat on it, but the Little Nibbler had a lovely plump, meaty piece, I tried to swap but got caught in the act!!! The curry sauce was nice and spicy, great for dipping your naan into.

Tandoori Chicken Rice Set for the Little Nibbler.
This came as the name suggests with a regular portion of nasi putih, a small side of potato curry and as above a small bowl of curry sauce. Check out the plump piece of chicken!

The Indian counter at Grace Point has two menu's, one 'Spice Delight Indian Cuisine' and the other 'Anjappar Indian Food' so I'm not really sure if there's two different vendors serving from this counter. A mystery that maybe somebody could solve for me?

View towards the Beverage counter and some of the other food vendors. Have to say I'm not very impressed with the drinks here, they don't taste so good and are more expensive than a well made drink in a coffee shop.
Grace Point Food Court is a bright, clean and popular place with lots of different food available and now with even more choice as the extension has started to fill up. As far as I'm aware some of the vendors are open during the day but all are open in the evening.

The Bill : 1x Tandoori Cheese Naan Set   9
                                                                        1x Tandoori Rice Set                 7

                                                             Total : 16 MYR

With lots of counters to choose from, Grace Point Food Court is a great place to come and indulge. The Indian Counter is just one, but the only one with Tandoori Chicken!
