Tom Yam @ Top 1 - HSK Industrial Centre

I'm always on the look out for new places and areas to eat, on one of my search missions recently I came across Top 1 which at the time was very busy indeed, I vowed to return, so here I am, breakfasting on spicy Tom Yam. It's a very tasty Tom Yam @ Top 1 and the seafood, fish and prawns were very fresh and delicious, as I'm a lover of spicy food I'll most definitely be returning to sample their seafood curry mee! As well as mee hoon soups, which are numerous there's also a wide range of other dishes to choose from.

Top 1 is located at HSK Industrial Centre just off the Bundusan Road, it has some very eye catching signs above the entrances so it's very easy to find.

The Bill : 1x Tom Yam, 1x Teh C Ping = 10 MYR

I'm very impressed with Top 1, I'll be returning with The Nibbler!

Tom Yam @ Kampung Nelayan - Taman Tun Fuad Stephens

Breakfast today comes from Kampung Nelayan. I'm pleased I gave this place another chance after my slightly disappointing Laksa on a previous visit, but what a difference a dish makes and today's Tom Yam was very delicious indeed, it's actually in a great fighting position for top spot in my humble opinion. Next time I'll try fresh fish and prawn to make my final decision! Today however I opted for the Yu Chap set which came with fish balls, fishcake slices, fried fish paste and beancurd rolls. Fish bits and noodles were plentiful, but the real delight is in the flavoursome tom yam soup, a real treat!

Breakfast Menu.

Kampung Nelayan is the famous restaurant located at Taman Fun Fuad Stephens at Bukit Padang.

Tom Yam @ Kedai Kopi How Kee - Beverly Hills

You can't help but notice the morning crowds at Kedai Kopi How Kee, a sure sign of great food. Fish noodles and tom yam are the crowd pleasers here, so as tom yam is one of my favourites, breakfast was sorted! I ordered fresh fish slice and prawn for my tom yam and somewhere along the line I'd ordered a large. Wow, it most certainly was! The seafood was very fresh and the soup was spicy hot hot hot! This one is most definitely for the spice lover! What I also liked here was that corriander, spring onion and chilli are available on the table to add to your personal taste. Top marks!

Kedai Kopi How Kee occupies a large corner lot at Beverly Hills.

The Bill : 1x Tom Yam (Big), 1x Teh C Ping = 15.50 MYR

A Tom Yam that's not for the 'faint hearted'!

Tom Yam & Butter Chicken @ Kopi Ping Cafe - Damai

My first visit today at the popular Kopi Ping Cafe, I was going to visit last week but I couldn't get a seat! After negotiating the menu I decided on Tom Yam served with rice. The Tom Yam is quite different to others I've tasted around town and had quite a strong flavour of a herb or spice which I can't identify, I want to say ginger torch bud but I'm not entirely sure. The spicy soup also contained beansprouts and prawns.

The Little Nibbler ordered the Butter Chicken Chop, boneless chicken thigh, battered and fried, smothered in a creamy butter sauce, served with nasi putih and a little side salad.

Kopi Ping Cafe is located in Damai.

The Bill : 1x Tom Yam, 1x Butter Chicken, 1x Ice Lemon Tea, 1x Lime Soda = 20.60 MYR

Sometimes you can't even get a seat!

Tom Yam @ Kafe Sinar Baru - Jalan Damai

I noticed crowds of people as I drove past this 'kafe' on Jalan Damai earlier this morning and decided I best return a little later to investigate! I was presented with 3 menus as I sat down but the main event seemed to be the noodle vendor, front of shop. I think just three items were available, though I could be wrong, looking around Tom Yam seemed to be the popular choice so I followed my instincts and went with the crowd! The seafood tom yam mee hoon was a good choice, chunks of fresh fish fillet and prawns in a nice 'n' spicy soup tempered with evaporated milk and topped with corriander, lovely! And all for the very reasonable price of six dollars.

Kafe Sinar Baru is located at the SMC roundabout, Jalan Damai.

The Bill : 1x Tom Yam, 1x 100 Plus, 1x Chinese Teh Ping = 8.20 MYR

Kafe Sinar Baru is a nice clean coffee shop with friendly staff and great food, I'll be back for sure!!!

Tom Yam @ Kedai Kopi Seng Hing - Sinsuran

The Tom Yam at Seng Hing never fails to impress me. Beautiful sweet, plump prawns always feature in this magnificent dish along with a fragrant, spicy soup with the wonderful taste of lemon grass bursting through. Truly a taste sensation!

Quite possibly the best Tom Yam in KK!

Tom Yam @ Jin Jin Seafood Restaurant - Hilltop

Jin Jin Seafood Restaurant is a very popular breakfast spot and rightly so. Their Fish Slice Mee Hoon Soup is amazing! This morning I thought I'd have a change and try their Tom Yam soup, I opted for prawn and fresh fish slice mix. The seafood tasted so fresh in the spicy aromatic soup with hints of chilli, ginger and lemongrass. You can taste the quality in the ingredients. It doesn't rank as the best for my taste but it's right up there and shouldn't disappoint.

The Little Nibler opted for the old favourite of Mixed Fish Slice Meehoon, mixing together fresh and fried fish slice in that wonderful sweet tomato broth.

We saw a lot of people this morning with this extra side dish, Fried Fish Cake Slice, so we thought we'd give it a try. I wasn't too impressed but the Nibbler enjoyed it. It was served with a sweet Thai style chilli sauce.

All I can say is come early to avoid disappointment! In the evening a different vendor operates from the restaurant.

Lots of happy diners enjoying their breakfast.

The Bill : Tom Yam 15, Fish Slice Meehoon 10, Fried Fish Cake 5 = 30 MYR

Come join the crowds for breakfast, a great start to the day!

Tom Yam @ Kedai Kopi Janggut - Hilltop

Yet another amazing dish to be found in KK, Tom Yam. But nothing like Thailand's signature dish, the Tom Yam here in KK generally comes thickened with condensed milk or coconut milk giving it a creamier milder taste yet still remaining spicy with chilli and lemongrass flavour.
For my pick I had the Tom Yam Meehoon with Fresh Fish Slice. The soup tastes awesome, I actually said "Oh wow" right out loud when I took my first mouthful! There's plenty of fish slice inside too, which is topped off with fresh corriander. If your Tom Yam isn't spicy enough for you then the homemade chilli sambal here at Janggut should do the trick!

A mix of fresh fish slice and prawn for the Little Nibbler's Tom Yam, though it has to be said there was only one prawn (halved) in the dish which was a little disappointing.

We also ordered a side dish of mixed fried, prawn dumpling, fish cake slice and beancurd served with mayo and chilli sauce. These are great on their own but i also like to dunk a few into my soup!

Kedai Kopi Janggut is located at Hilltop, look out for the crowds of happy diners most mornings.

The Bill : 2x Tom Yam, 1x Mixed Fried Side Dish, 1x Teh Ping, 1x Kopi C Ping = 32.50 MYR

There's awesome Tom Yam at Janggut, keep your eye's open around Hilltop as there's at least two other places I know of, that will not disappoint you too!
