Western & Local Food @ Table No.1 - Tanjung Aru

Another great new restaurant, Table No.1 At Tanjung Aru. We kept a close eye on this place when it was being renovated from a bright yellow house to what you see today, a brilliant, bright white restaurant! I also wondered, what kind of food would it serve? I must say that from the sign outside it seems quite confused, pasta, nasi lemak and grills?!? But from looking at the menu, seeing other peoples food come out and finally eating the food, there's nothing confusing about it at all! With local and western food on offer there's plenty of choice but not so much that it's overwhelming and leaves you wondering how on earth could they cook so many dishes and do them justice too!
There were quite a few dishes that caught my eye, I now have at least five reasons to go back, but it was the Rendang Oxtail Platter that got my vote. A fantastic tasting, spicy rendang with a generous portion of oxtail that just fell off the bone, this was served with rice, egg omelette, a spicy almost pickled salad of vegetables and crackers, simply delicious!

The Little Nibbler went western choosing Crispy Skin Salmon with Pesto. Perfectly cooked salmon on top of an assortment of sauteed vegetables with a creamy pesto sauce. Yummy! Thumbs up all round! Its well worth mentioning that the dishes are presented really nicely too, good job Table No.1!

Table No.1 is located at Tanjung Aru, heading down to First Beach and next door to Perdana Park.

As we didn't feel dressed for the occasion we decided to sit outside at one of their candlelit tables. The inside dining area looks lovely with bright white interiors and soft furnishings with different seating arrangements, really quite stylish!

The Bill : 1x Rendang Oxtail, 1x Salmon, 1x Coke Light, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 84.70 MYR

See you in the not so distant future, Table No.1!

Chinese Food @ Restaurant Beaufort 88 - Marketplace 88

I love it when we find a great new restaurant, well, new to us anyway. This was definitely the case with Restaurant Beaufort 88. We've been past it a few times before and it always looked busy, so tonight The Little Nibbler suggested we should give it a go. Good work Nibbler!!! With a friendly waitress highlighting a few items, I went for one of her suggestions of fried choy sum with pork. This was simple and delicious, healthy greens stir fried with tender pork.

The Nibbler wanted to try an omelette so we opted for the prawn with fried egg, juicy prawns with fluffy eggs. Yum!

Another pick by The Nibbler of kon lau mee with char siu. Another great choice! This was really quite different to any other kon lau mee we've eaten before, the sauce was quite herbal in taste and the char siu was extremely lean, a great dish!

Restaurant Beaufort 88 is located at Marketplace 88, just off Jalan Pintas.

The Bill : 1x Fried Choy Sum, 1x Prawn Omelette, 1x Kon Lau Mee, 2x Nasi Putih, 1x Teh C Ping, 1x Chinese Teh Ping = 26.70 MYR

Looking forward to my return visit already!

Teriyaki & Tiffin @ Wishbone - Jalan Gaya

This was our first visit to the newly refurbished Wishbone, best described in it's latest incarnation, as an 'Art Cafe' I suppose. The main dining area is now upstairs and the decor is young, fun and funky with art works adorning the walls, it definitely has a street art vibe to it.

The food is also a little different here too, there's some familiar items available but with a few twists and tweaks. I decided on the Dabba Tingkat Minced Beef Ball Set. The meal arrived in a tingkat or a tiffin as I like to call them, and comprised of nasi putih, garlic pucuk manis and two braised beef balls in an onion and tomato based broth. All in all the meal was very tasty especially the beef balls in their sweet, savoury broth and I quite liked the tiffin touch. I just thought the price tag was a little too steep as everything was fine and tasty but nothing was really special.

The Little Nibbler opted for the Teriyaki Style Rice Burger, a Japanese inspired chicken burger with sweet potato fries. The Nibbler was less impressed with this meal, although the chicken burger patty itself was pretty tasty, the rice 'bun' element didn't really hold together, maybe a more glutinous sticky rice is needed. The sweet potato fries, which sounds like a great idea, were rather strange, as they were coated in some kind of sweet sugar coating, definitely not to our taste, I'm sure just regular fried sweet potato would work much better with just a sprinkling of salt.

For drinks I ordered the Teh Tarik and a Kitchai Ping for The Nibbler.

Wishbone is located along Jalan Gaya on the same block as Bomber's Burger. As a lover of graffitti and street art I really like the outside of the building, as well as the stencil work inside. I believe that there's going to be guest artworks showing inside too.

Some stencil work from inside.

John Lennon window.

I really like the interior of Wishbone, I actually think it would work really well as a small bar.

The Bill : 1x Dabba Tingkat, 1x Teriyaki Burger, 1x Teh Tarik, 1x Kitchai Ping = 40.55 MYR

Although the food didn't quite excite us as we hoped there's a lot of good to be said for the new Wishbone.

Kuching Laksa @ Kedai Kopi K.S - Jalan Lintas

Anyone who's a regular reader of 'Nasi Chomper' will be well aware of my love of Laksa, my all time favourite Malaysian dish, I just can't get enough of it! Luckily for me The Nibbler shares this little obsession too!!!

I'm pleased to report that there's amazing tasting Kuching Laksa to be eaten at Kedai Kopi K.S. This was our first visit to this coffee shop and I know it wont be our last! It seemed we were in good company, as it was pretty packed, so I'm guessing that this place is no secret to the good people of KK. With three sizes of Laksa to choose from we opted for medium, which I'm so pleased about, mainly because The Little Nibbler couldn't quite finish, so I ended up with a little bit of extra deliciousness! The soup was nice and spicy with shredded chicken, omelette and juicy prawns.

Kedai Kopi K.S is located along Jalan Lintas not far from Lido Square Food Court. As well as Laksa there's Chinese BBQ meats available, which also looked very tasty and popular too.

The Bill : 2x Kuching Laksa, 1x Kitchai Ping, 1x Kopi C Ping = 16 MYR

Another great spot for a great tasting Laksa, Kuching style!

Roti Cobra @ Kedai Mekan Islamic Restoran - Centre Point

Is there anything more comforting than a Roti Cobra? I think not!!! Since coming to KK this has to be my favourite 'fast food' enjoyed anytime of the day. The roti from Kedai Makan Islamic Restoran don't come much better in my opinion, and this is possibly my favourite place to eat in Centre Point's Food Court. For the uninitiated (which I was when I arrived) Roti Cobra is quite simply a roti topped with either chicken or kambing curry and a fried egg, simple yet delicious! The chicken curry was especially good today as the meat just fell off the bone.

The food court's had a refurb recently with a new floor and bright, colourful tables and chairs.

The Bill : 1x Roti Cobra, 1x Teh Tarik Ping = 6.70 MYR

Pizza Pasta @ Luigi Malones - Marlin Roundabout

We've been meaning to try Luigi Malone's for some time now, as we were in the area we decided to pop in for their great value, lunchtime menu.

I picked one of the pasta options, Meatball Spaghetti. Perfectly cooked spaghetti in a tasty tomato sauce. My only grumble would have to be the 'meatballs' I should have looked at the menu more carefully as the meat used was chicken, I would have much preferred beef, but hey, thats my fault! Also the meat wasn't in 'balls' exactly more like a patty cut into squares. But at this price there's no real complaint! The pasta came with lettuce, a piece of bruschetta and a sprinkling of parmesan.

Vegetariana Pizza for The Little Nibbler, no grumbles here at all!!! A lovely thin crust pizza, quite different to any other pizza base we've tasted in KK. Topped with tomatoes, onions and peppers, oh and lets not forget lovely, gooey cheese. "A really fresh tasting pizza" said The Nibbler, happily.

Kitchai Ping and Coke Light for drinks.

There's something for everyone on Luigi's Lunch Menu.

Luigi Malone's is located along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen on the Marlin Roundabout, opposite The Hyatt. The special lunch menu is available everyday of the week, luckily for us, on bank holidays too!

The Bill : 2x Luigi's Lunch = 22 MYR

Luigi's gets my vote for delicious lunchtime pizza!
Already looking forward to my next visit!!!

Burgers @ Bomber's Burger - Jalan Gaya

After the free samples it's now time to be a paying customer at KK's newest Burger Bar, Bomber's Burger. Not that burgers are the only thing on the menu, there's plenty of choice and variety, but for our first visit it had to be meaty Burgers!!! I opted for The Smoker, a tasty, meaty, burger with a smoked BBQ sauce, though not over powering like some BBQ sauces, actually quite subtle. Cheese, caramelized onions and salad were also crammed in too! Tasty and messy!!!

Route 66 for The Little Nibbler, the same meaty burger with caramelized onion, mushrooms, cheese and salad. Another winning burger.

We also ordered a side of Chili Cheese Fries. Tangy, mildly spiced Texas chili on top of fries, with what I'd call a bechamel sauce, not exactly what I was expecting but tasty enough all the same, for my taste though, grated cheddar or another fairly strong cheese would have been better.

Bomber's Burger is located along Jalan Gaya, just about opposite BB Cafe and next door to Party Play.

The Bill : 1x Smoker, 1x Route 66, 1x Chili Cheese Fries, 1x Add On Onion Rings & Drink, 1x Vanilla Milkshake = 51.35 MYR

Bomber's Burger is another tasty addition to KK's growing burger scene.
KK, Borneo's Burger Capital!!!

Chicken Rice @ Plus One Raihan Chicken Rice - Centre Point

Centre Point's Food Court is a great place to grab a bargain lunch and Plus One Raihnan Chicken Rice is probably the best bargain to be had in the whole place, and quite possibly in the whole of KK for that matter! For 2.70 MYR you get a good portion of tasty rice and chicken, sweet chilli sambal and soup. There's no plates here but who cares at this price who can complain! Not me that's for sure!!! I've paid a lot more for a lot less, not just in quantity but in quality of taste too!

Located in the basement of Centre Point, there's no missing the crowds here.

The Bill : 1x Nasi Ayam = 2.70 MYR

The best 2.70 Ringgit you'll spend by far, lah!!!

Chinese Food & New Diamond Restoran - Foh Sang

New Diamond Restoran is a deservedly popular chinese restaurant, it's usually packed to the rafters most evenings! Every time I've eaten here the food has been superb, tonight was no exception. First up, I picked Yung Chow fried rice, mixed veg, egg and pork, fried with rice. At last a fried rice worth eating! No stodgy rice here, fried rice as fried rice should be!!!

The Little Nibbler picked Hokkien noodles, thick noodles drenched in a savoury sauce with pork and cabbage. These noodles got the seal of approval all round!

Next up we had Sayur Manis fried with egg which is fast becoming a firm favourite with us. This was ok, not quite as good as some others we've had, no complaints really.

Pickles and peanuts along with a pot of chinese tea appear on your table as your seated, the first time I came here I thought they were free, but no such luck! Haha. The same can be said for the wet towels that magically appear stealth like from nowhere!!!

Diamond is located next door to Pick N Pay in Foh Sang.

The Bill : 1x Yung Chow Fried Rice, 1x Hokkien Noodles, 1x Sayur Manis, 1x Pickles/Peanuts, 1x Pot Chinese Tea, 2x Wet Towel = 25.80 MYR

Diamond is fantastic!!!
