Airline Food @ AirAsia - 30 000 ft

When you pre-book your online meal with Airasia not only do you receive up to 15% discount on your order but on a long haul flight you also get two meals.
The Little Nibbler ordered me the vegetarian menu, knowing deep down that I am a very health conscience person! (I'll try and keep a straight face) So first up was the Spinach and Mushroom Lasagne, don't let looks fool you, this was actually quite tasty. Spinach and Mushroom in a rich tomato sauce, between layers of pasta and topped with cheese, not a bad effort considering the location!

Nice Views.

Also added on a coke, it's important to stay hydrated while flying!

Second up was Beancurd Kung Pao with Steamed Rice, again I quite liked this! Fried Beancurd, red and green peppers, cashew nuts and chilli in a spicy, sweet and sour sauce served with rice, quite tasty indeed.

I'm not sure where we are now???

The Bill : Sorry can't remember the pre-booked price but on board I'm sure it's 15 MYR a meal and 5 MYR for soft drinks.

As I've said I quite like Airasia's food, does this mean there's something wrong with me?

Pizza @ Decanter - KL LCCT

I had high hopes for Decanter, from the outside it had the look of a cozy Bistro but inside it was quite cavernous and more like a bar. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to much too, we ordered a Vegetarian Pizza and Fries. The Pizza looked promising but on closer inspection it looked like only half of it was properly cooked! It didn't taste homemade, more like a mass produced frozen variety and it was luke warm, possibly reheated in a microwave. Not very good at all, really should have sent it back!

The Fries were slightly better, but by no means great and were quite oily.

Thankfully no complaints with the ice cold white wine.

It says closed but it was open! Decanter is located next to the Tune Hotel at KL LCCT. I'm guessing it's open daily to cater to the hotel clientele.

Beer Menu.

The Bill : 1x Pizza, 1x Fries, 2x White Wine = 80.05 MYR

In my opinion stick to the drinks menu!

Airline Food @ AirAsia - 30 000 ft

Airline food generally gets very bad press...........but surprise surprise I like it! AirAsia's biryanni is probably my favourite but on todays flight the Pad Thai caught my eye. Rice noodles stir fried with chicken, fish cake slice, possibly tofu, beansprouts and egg, topped with crushed peanuts. The noodles tasted hot, sweet and sour from the chilli, fish sauce and lime juice. Very tasty indeed!

The meal is served with salted peanuts and mango juice drink. If you pre book online you can save up to 25%.

The Bill : Pad Thai Set = 18 MYR

Not as tasty as on the streets of Bangkok, but at 30 000 ft up in the air not bad at all!!!

Kuching Laksa @ Nam Fong - Segama

Another Laksa well worth trying is Kuching Laksa at Nam Fong. This Laksa is not as creamy or thick as others around town but maybe this is the nature of Kuching or Sarawak Laksa! Ingredients are plentiful with prawns, shredded chicken and omelette, beancurd puffs and beansprouts. With its dark colour it gives the look of a head blowing, highly spiced dish but the spice is just right for my taste, of course belacan sambal is served for the super spicy lovers!

Nam Fong is located in the Segama shoplots, KK Plaza side.

Nam Fong also specializes in Hong Kong style BBQ Meats.

The Bill : Kuching Laksa, Teh Ping = 7.10 MYR

You don't have to travel so far for the taste of Sarawak, Kuching Laksa right here in Kota Kinabalu.

Pizza @ Sunset Bar And Grill - Nexus Resort & Spar

We decided for a change of scenery this evening so headed out to Nexus Resort and Spar for drinks and Pizza at their Sunset Bar And Grill. With a few different Pizzas to choose from, as well as Pasta dishes and Grills we opted for a Sunset Pizza, in keeping with the Sunset Bar theme. Marinated chicken pieces on top of corriander pesto, topped with mozzarella and tomato salsa. Normally we go for a more traditional topping but we thought we'd take a chance, the pizza was tasty enough with fresh ingredients also the base was perfect, for me this makes all the difference between an average and a great, handmade pizza. I think next time though I would definitely go traditional and not be so wacky! Haha!

Nexus is located roughly between KK and Tuaran on the beautiful Karambunai Peninsular. The resort is set in fabulous grounds on a picture postcard, perfect beach.

You can't beat a sunset at the Sunset Bar!

The Bill : 1x Pizza, 4x Draught Beer = 125.30 MYR

It's not the cheapest place around but the Pizzas are fantastic and the surroundings are simply wonderful!

Drinks & Cake @ Upperstar Pepper Grill & Bar - Damai

On a steamy hot day there's nothing quite like an ice cold beer! But unfortunately for me, with car keys in my hand, it was just not meant to be. So I ordered my second favourite drink at Upperstar, Vanilla Smoothie. Basically an ice blended vanilla milkshake with chocolate sauce on top, lovely and cold for a blistering hot day. The Little Nibbler opted for an Ice Blended Cappuccino, as I'm not a coffee drinker I couldn't tell you what it was like, what I can tell you though is the Nibbler gave it the thumbs up!

We also indulged in a piece of Cheesecake, taste wise pretty good but where's the biscuit base? Cheesecake, for us, comes with a biscuit base not a pastry one, maybe this is the Malaysian way?

Upperstar Pepper Grill & Bar in Damai opens in the daytime, offering lunchtime specials, as well as in the evening.

The Bill : 1x Vanilla Smoothie, 1x Ice Blended Cappuccino, 1x Cheesecake = 23.05 MYR

With 4 branches in KK, Upperstar offers reasonably priced food and drinks. This one has a fairly large outside eating area though at certain times of the day Jalan Damai can get very busy and noisy!

Nasi Biryani @ Mydin Curry House - Api - Api Centre

After bounding into Kolombong Fish Head Curry in search of Biryani and Fish Slice Curry (sorry haven't managed to face the Fish Head yet!) I was slightly disheartened that there was no Biryani today or possibly it was habis already. All was not lost as to my knowledge there's possibly 6 or 8 Curry Houses, maybe more, around Api - Api so I turned on my heels and carried on with my search.
Luckily I didn't have to go far, before spotting out the corner of my eye the golden colour of Nasi Biryani, not only that but Fish Slice Curry was available as well, Nice! This was my first visit to Mydin Curry House and let me tell you, it won't be my last. The Biryani was fragrant and spicy, I also opted for a veggie side which was stir fried okra or Ladies Fingers as it's sometimes called in England. My fish slice was a good size with sweet flesh that mixed perfectly with the sour curry spices. Delicious!

Mydin Curry House is located in the Api - Api Centre, on the same side and not too far from Kolombong Fish Head Curry. The sign says 24 hours opening.

The Bill : Nasi Biryani, Fish Curry, Teh Tarik Ping = 9.20 MYR

I was really pleased with my first visit to Mydin Curry House, there's plenty of choice from the Nasi Campur as well as the a la carte menu. Great food in clean surroundings.

Nasi Ayam @ Siang Siang Panmian - Damai

At Siang Siang Panmian there's fantastic Chicken Rice available. With a choice of Herbs Chicken or Hainan Chicken Rice, I opted for Herbs. Silky chicken breast came topped with a savoury sweet sauce with an added twist of peanuts, which I've never seen before but have to say I really like. The rice was well cooked with slivers of ginger and the soup was really tasty too. Simple and delicious.

Siang Siang Panmian is located in Damai. Open daytime only.

The Bill : Nasi Ayam, Chinese Teh Ping = 5 MYR

Nasi Ayam is a dish I've grown to love in KK, at first I didn't realise what all the fuss was about but the more I've eaten the more I appreciate the subtle flavours involved. For me this is right up there with the best I've eaten!

Tuaran Mee @ Tuaran Mee Restoran - Tuaran

We decided to take a trip out for lunch today and decided Tuaran would be as good a place as any. Also where better to have Tuaran noodles than Tuaran itself, not only that but why not go to a restaurant called Tuaran Mee Restoran for Tuaran Mee in Tuaran! Phew!
Now we've been to this restaurant maybe three times before I think and never been disappointed and I'm pleased to report today was no different, superb! I opted for Mee Goreng Special, the noodles came fried with egg and a little green veg, topped with sweet char siu, pork roll, sliced, stewed pork in some kind of gravy and prawn. The taste is awesome, these noodles are something else, definitely worth the drive out.

As the Little Nibbler's a fan of Pork and Kon Lau Mee this was todays choice. Noodles came blanched not fried in a sweet, savoury sauce topped again with char siu, pork roll and sliced pork, simply delicious.

It really does say 'Tuaran Mee Restoran' under that sign! As you drive into town from KK direction the shop is located on the first block you come to on the right hand side, if you pass the Shell garage on the left hand side you've gone too far.

The Bill : 1x Mee Goreng Special, 1x Kon Lau Mee, 1x Chinese Teh Ping, 1x Kopi C Ping = 15.50 MYR

Tuaran Mee is a must try dish here in Sabah, it's available in KK but I haven't had any quite as good as here in Tuaran at Tuaran Mee Restoran.
Take a drive out, you'll be pleased you did!
