Nasi Ayam @ Singapore Chicken Rice - Api - Api Centre

Restoran Singapore Chicken Rice underwent a major facelift operation a few months ago and turned itself into a nice, bright and clean eating establishment, which includes some booth seating. The name gives it away as to what's in store, as well as some added noodle and vegetable options. I opted for the fried chicken and rice, though I'm sure it's roasted??? Never mind, it's very tasty all the same, rice is pretty good and with ginger and chilli sambals on the table it's a sure fire winner for me!

SCR is located in the Api - Api Centre, next door to Mc D's.

The Bill : 1x Nasi Ayam, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 8.30 MYR

Nasi Goreng Mamak @ Mydin Curry House - Api - Api Centre

Mydin Curry House offers an array of tasty curries, vegetable dishes and biriani as well as a la carte items. I fancied something filling today so opted for a plate of nasi goreng, mamak style. You get a large portion of spicy rice fried with egg, tomato, veggies and chicken. Nothing too much to shout about just simple and satisfying.

Dosa & Nasi Lemak @ Salam's Curry House - Api - Api Centre

I had masala dosa in mind for breakfast this morning but unfortunately it wasn't available, so I had to settle for plain dosa instead. Salam's Curry House dosa is served with a delicious spicy, green coconut chutney and dahl. A nice, hot, frothy teh tarik is a great drink to accompany dosa in my humble opinion!

I also picked up a nasi lemak for a light lunch, tasty coconut rice with all the trimmings!

Salam's Curry House is located near the end of Api - Api Centre closest to Centre Point.

Banana leaf meals are also available @ Salam's.

The Bill : 1x Dosa, 1x Nasi Lemak, 1x Teh Tarik = 5 MYR

Heading back for a banana leaf meal soon!

Masala Dosa @ Devi's Cafe - Api Api Centre

Devi's Cafe is well known for it's banana leaf meals, I was there this morning for breakfast so i thought I'd give their Masala Dosa a try. A dosa is a south Indian pancake made from fermented rice and lentil batter giving it a slight sour taste, the masala part refers to the mildly spiced potato 'stuffing' inside the dosa. Devi's serve the dish with two thin dahls and a spicy coconut chutney, this was a very filling, tasty breakfast and reminded me of my travels in India, wonderful!

Devi's is located at Api - Api Centre.

Biryani Friday @ Maimunaah Food Corner - Api - Api Centre

This weeks 'Biryani Friday' comes from Mainumaah Food Corner. I didn't get too involved this week choosing sides etc and just ordered nasi biryani ayam with an iced teh tarik. A fried drumstick came with the rice, as well as a mild, light curry of cauliflower and carrot, a dish I wouldn't of picked as cauliflower isn't my favourite of vegetables, but it was actually really quite good. There was also an egg hiding in the biryani and a spoonful of curry gravy over the top, all in all a tasty and very filling meal. I think next time I would go for chicken curry instead of the fried drumstick, not that there was anything wrong with the drumstick, just my personal preference.

Mainumaah Food Corner is located in the Api - Api Centre. The man who seems to be running this operation deserves a special mention, as he quite literally, never stops! Taking orders, serving food, making rotis, collecting money and when he has a spare second cleaning down food surfaces, and always with a smile. It's funny the things you start to notice!

The Bill : 1x Nasi Biryani Ayam, 1x Teh Tarik Ping = 9 MYR

Good quality filling food!

Biryani Friday @ Kolombong Fish Head Curry & Caffe - Api - Api Centre

Here's a new feature I'm going to endeavour to fulfill, 'Biryani Friday'. Every Friday or at least every other Friday, for you, my readers, I'm going to sample Nasi Biryani in the far and wide reaches of KK and report my findings here, on Nasi Chomper, I know I know, a selfless task!
Please feel free to comment and leave recommendations of your favourite biryani restaurant, I'm especially interested in finding great evening time biryanis, so all help and suggestions are much appreciated.
So to kick start 'Biryani Friday' I headed to Api - Api Centre where there is a fairly large concentration of Mamak stalls and curry houses. I thought I'd give Kolombong Fish Head Curry & Caffe a try because on all my previous visits the biryani was always habis, so today I headed out for a fairly early lunch, at 11.30. My luck was in, as there was a tray, full of biryani behind the glass counter. Along with the biryani I ordered Fish Slice Curry, Achar and a Teh Tarik Ping, a poppadom was also placed on top of the rice. The rice was nice and fragrant and not at all stodgy with hints of cinnamon and star anise coming through. Fried onions, raisins and cashews all helped to give it a great, mild, overall flavour. The fish slice curry is not to be missed either, I'm sure the fish heads great too, but as yet I'm not brave enough to try!!! Since being in KK I also like to have achar as a side dish to my biryani, which I also like eating with crispy poppadoms. Overall this was a tasty, satisfying meal and a brilliant start to 'Biryani Friday'!

Kolombong Fish Head Curry is located on the corner of Api - Api Centre closest to Wawasan Plaza.

Outside eating area where you can catch a nice cool breeze in the midday sun.

Roti Kobra @ Kolombong Fish Head Curry & Caffe - Api - Api Centre

As I'm not brave enough to eat Fish Head Curry, I'd previously visited Kolombong Fish Head Curry & Caffe for their Fish Slice Curry and Biryani, which I have to say was delicious! Not feeling so hungry today I noticed that they do one of my favourite dishes here in KK, Roti Kobra, so I thought I'd give it a try. I normally have this dish at Kedai Makan Islamic Restoran, located in Centre Point, so the first thing I noticed, was that they place the roti on top! Here they serve the dish with chicken curry on the bottom, then the fried egg, topped with the roti, controversial I say! But hey, when food tastes this good who cares? The chicken curry was nice and spicy, the egg, nice and runny and the roti, crispy and chewy, perfect! I'll be popping back again for this!

Kolombong Fish Head Curry & Caffe is located at the end of Api - Api Centre closest to Warisan Plaza.

The Bill : 1x Roti Kobra, 1x Teh Tarik Ping = 6.50 MYR

Loving the Roti Cobra @ Kolombong Fish Head Curry, their Biryani is excellent too!

Thai Food @ Tam Nak Thai Restaurant - Api - Api Centre

The Little Nibbler first introduced me to Tam Nak Thai Restaurant, I'm very pleased she did! So far we havn't eaten better Thai food here in KK, this is by far our favourite Thai place! Not only is the food good, the restaurant itself deserves a special mention as it's very smart and clean inside with wooden decor and dimmed lighting, very pleasant indeed. But enough of that, on to the food!

First up we had Gai Hor Bai Toey - marinated chicken wrapped in Toey leaf (which infact is Pandan leaf). This is a great dish with hints of lemon grass and pandan, great dipped in the Thai chilli sauce.

Next we have Nor Mok Pla Mak Paw On - minced fish with selected ingredients and assorted vegetables served in a young coconut. Now this is quite possibly our favourite dish here, as we can't seem to get past it on the menu! It's simply fantastic, although it possibly doesn't look it, the taste is sublime, the added coconut flesh is awesome!

Lastly, Gang Ped Gai - Thai spicy red curry with chicken. A Thai classic with hints of chilli, coconut, lemon grass and basil leaves. I love Thai curries with their hot, sweet and sour elements.

Not forgetting a cold Tiger with two glasses.

Tam Nak Thai is located on the front side of the Api - Api Centre, not too far from Grazie Restaurant.

The Bill : 1x Pandan Chicken, 1x Fish in Coconut, 1x Red Chicken Curry, 3x Rice, 1x Large Tiger = 77.95 MYR

Awesome tasting Thai food in lovely surroundings, Tam Nak Thai!

Mee Goreng Mamak @ Tigris Cafe - Api - Api Centre

Another first for me, this time at the Tigris Cafe. A very popular lunchtime and evening eatery in the Api - Api Centre, so today, it was my turn to sample their wares. There's quite a large menu to choose from, but I had a taste for noodles so I opted for Mee Goreng Mamak style. The noodles arrived hot and spicy with generous ingredients. Chicken, prawn, squid, peppers, tomato,  onion, cucumber and egg, stir fried with yellow mee and curry spices. Simple and delicious.

Tigris Cafe locates a corner unit in the Api - Api Centre.

The Bill : 1x Mee Goreng Mamak, 1x Ice Lemon Teh =

There's a good reason for the crowds at Tigris, the food, simple as that!

Nasi Biryani @ Mydin Curry House - Api - Api Centre

After bounding into Kolombong Fish Head Curry in search of Biryani and Fish Slice Curry (sorry haven't managed to face the Fish Head yet!) I was slightly disheartened that there was no Biryani today or possibly it was habis already. All was not lost as to my knowledge there's possibly 6 or 8 Curry Houses, maybe more, around Api - Api so I turned on my heels and carried on with my search.
Luckily I didn't have to go far, before spotting out the corner of my eye the golden colour of Nasi Biryani, not only that but Fish Slice Curry was available as well, Nice! This was my first visit to Mydin Curry House and let me tell you, it won't be my last. The Biryani was fragrant and spicy, I also opted for a veggie side which was stir fried okra or Ladies Fingers as it's sometimes called in England. My fish slice was a good size with sweet flesh that mixed perfectly with the sour curry spices. Delicious!

Mydin Curry House is located in the Api - Api Centre, on the same side and not too far from Kolombong Fish Head Curry. The sign says 24 hours opening.

The Bill : Nasi Biryani, Fish Curry, Teh Tarik Ping = 9.20 MYR

I was really pleased with my first visit to Mydin Curry House, there's plenty of choice from the Nasi Campur as well as the a la carte menu. Great food in clean surroundings.

Sabah Laksa @ Kopitam - Api - Api Centre

Sharing my love of Laksa, the Little Nibbler spotted this 'PROMISI...SABAH LAKSA' sign while wandering around Api - Api and decided we should give it a go! Well who am I to argue?
The Sabah Laksa looked fantastic, topped with corriander, beansprouts and juicy prawns. Taste wise it grew on us, mainly because the becalan was a little overpowering to our tastebuds. But the more we ate, the more the heat of the spices came through, and the happier we were! It was lacking however in variety of ingredients, just prawns, though it has to be said they were very tasty and a good size too.

Now I've called this place Kopitam because it seems that they are using the same sign from the previous vendors, maybe they will change the name at a later date, who knows?

Kopitam is located inside the Api - Api Centre furthest away from McDonalds.
Opening times are 07.30 - 14.30

The Bill : 2x Sabah Laksa, 1x Teh Tarik Ping, 1x Kopi C Ping =15MYR

Good value tasty Laksa, not the best in my opinion but definitely worth a try, I would be more than happy to return for more!
