Chicken @ Malisa Flame Grilled Chicken - Perdana Park

At Malisa Flame Grilled Chicken you kind of know what to expect, as the name pretty much spells it out! What it doesn't tell you though is just how tasty their chicken and sides really are! There's also other items on the menu, with local choices and vegetarians catered for too. I opted for the chicken breast in pitta with Malisa's aromatic rice and garlic bread. Firstly I must point out that the bread used isn't pitta, now this isn't a complaint as the bread was fantastic, more like a ciabatta that had lovely chewy texture with wonderful charred marks that tastes of BBQ. The bread is stuffed with a char grilled chicken breast, salad and sauces, there's also a side salad. Let me tell you, this sandwich tastes just amazing! Malisa's rice makes a great accompaniment, with juicy raisins running through it. The garlic bread was nice and garlicy, using the same bread as the sandwich, again no complaints from me! Be warned though, all portions are large, which does reflect in the price.

The Little Nibbler had the 1/4 chicken, which again came with a side salad. Steamed rice and a really tasty, bean salad (surely these four words shouldn't go together! Haha) But it really was! Basically an assortment of beans, onions and peppers in a spicy sauce to give it a kick!

These 3 sauces are a great addition to your meal, from left to right, a lemony herb yoghurt sauce, mild chilli sauce and, well, a fire chilli sauce. I think someone tampered with our sauces as the 'red' top was supposed to be the super hot and the 'orange' one mild, this definitely wasn't the case on our table!!! Ouch!

If you fancy this great tasting chicken head to Perdana Park, Tanjung Aru.

The Bill : 1x Chicken Pitta/2 Sides, 1x1/4 Chicken/2 Sides, 1x Ice Lemon Tea, 1x Glass Water = 40.80 MYR

There's some great eats to be found around Perdana Park!

Penang Kuih Teow @ Lot No.11 Penang Seafood - Tanjung Aru Hawker Centre

The hawker food at First Beach is a bit hit 'n' miss in my opinion. With its great location it should really be one of the best food centres in KK, sadly it doesn't live up to my expectations. Lot No.11 Penang Seafood is a fairly safe bet for a plate of decent fried noodles. Penang Kuih Teow comes with sliced fish cake, prawns and squid along with thick, flat, kuih teow noodles, egg and beansprouts. It tasted ok and was pepped up with some fiery chilli sauce.

You can't miss the Hawker Centre at First Beach, Tanjung Aru, it's large and lively!

The Bill : 1x Penang Kuih Teow, 1x Kitchai Ping = 8.50 MYR

Kuching Laksa @ Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Tien Wang - Lido

I'd seen the big banners advertising Kuching Laksa around Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Tien Wang for some time now, but when I went this morning for breakfast, they were nowhere to be seen! My heart sank, surely it wasn't habis already! Thankfully when I entered the coffee shop the Laksa stall was still there, excellent news!

I ordered the small size, which in my opinion was fairly large, not that I'm complaining as the Laksa was simply superb! Nice and spicy and absolutely loaded with ingredients, shredded chicken and omelette, prawns and mee hon, topped with fresh corriander. I might just stick my neck out here and say that this was probably the best Kuching Laksa I've tasted in KK! Big words I know, give it a try and let me know what you think, do you know of a tastier one? Then let me know too!

Tien Wang is located at Lido. I'm sure it's no secret as there's often queues of people standing at the roasted meat stall.

The Bill : 1x Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 8 MYR

Dare I say it again? ......The best Kuching Laksa in KK!

This week is really turning out to be a great food week!!!

Mango Fish Slice @ Kedai Kopi Hing Leong - Tanjung Aru

Kedai Kopi Hing Leong serves amazing Mango Fish Slice! The fresh fish slices are deep fried in batter then smothered with a sweet and spicy, fruity sauce with thin slices of red onion and mango, topped off with chopped peanuts. This dish is for lovers of spicy, tangy flavours, it certainly wakes up the taste buds! We also ordered some stir fried mixed veg with garlic and ginger, it's always good to eat some greens! We had a really enjoyable meal, looking forward to trying some of the other dishes on the menu, mongolian lamb sounds interesting!

Kedai Kopi Hing Leong is located at Tanjung Aru.

Arabic Food @ Al Andalus Arabic Restaurant - Warisan Square

At last my food prayers have been answered, delicious, authentic, Arabic food, right here in the heart of KK. I couldn't be happier!!! For me it's all about kebabs, wonderful flat breads, salads, hummus and lamb, but shock horror, there's much more to Arabic cuisine than this and the menu at Al Andalus turned up some never heard before dishes, that I can't wait to try!

To kick start our meal we decided to try the Hummus Beiruti, a lovely, creamy hummus with the addition of fresh parsley, dressed with olive oil and chick peas.

Initially we were only going to have one starter but then this dish, Moutabel caught my eye. It's pretty similar to Baba Ghanoush were aubergines or eggplant are roasted till soft then mashed with various seasonings and of course olive oil to produce a delicious fresh tasting dip.

Yummy pittas drizzled with olive oil were perfect for scooping up the awesome Arabic starters.

Did I mention I love kebabs? No? Surely! Well there could only be one choice for me on this, our first of many visits to Al Andalus. With lamb and chicken shawarma on full view front side of the restaurant, I opted for the Lamb Shawarma Crispy Set, which comes with golden crinkle cut fries and soft drink. I was in heaven eating this! A mound of spiced and seasoned, sliced lamb on top of  freshly cooked flat bread, with sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, a heap of fresh parsley, spicy chilli and sour cream sauces accompany the dish to pour over that delicious meat. Wow! I found the best way to tackle this was, firstly, to eat with my hands. Secondly, eat roughly half of it including all the fries, then lastly, fold everything else up in the bread and enjoy! But hey this is my way, I'm sure you too can find what's best for you!

The Little Nibbler had a dish that I've never heard of before, Smoked Mandy Rice, with a choice of lamb, chicken or fish. Todays choice was juicy, delicious chicken that just fell off the bone with a mild spicy taste. I've been doing some internet research and apparently 'mandi' style of cooking is traditionally done underground in a tandoor type of oven. Now I'm not too sure if the restaurant has holes in their kitchen floor, but maybe next time I'll sneak a look! The rice was tasty and fragrant too, garnished with peanuts, cashews and raisins. This set also comes with a spicy vegetable soup and spicy sauce. Another happy diner!

Al Andalus Arabic Restaurant is located on the outside edge of Warisan Square. Inside the decor is clean and simple using pastel colours to offset the white walls and bright tile work to separate the booths. I really do hope this restaurant does well, if the food is anything to go by, and the standards don't slip, then it rightly deserves to do so! Arabic food isn't really catered for here in KK as it is in KL and I think it's a great shame. Support your local Arabic restaurant!

Check out our Arabic feast!

The Bill : 1x Hummus, 1x Mountabel, 1x Crispy Set, 1x Mandy Rice, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 48 MYR

Satay Ayam @ City Food Corner - Sinsuran

Feeling a little peckish and wanting to take the edge off before dinner, I headed to City Food Corner where I know there is a great little satay stall. I ordered my drink of ice lemon tea, found a seat outside for optimum people watching and placed my satay ayam order with the friendly stall holder. The satay here is really good in my opinion and the peanut sauce is wonderful!

Satay man doing his thing!

This branch of City Food Corner is located across the road from Centre Point and behind Le Meridien Hotel.

The Bill : 5x Satay Ayam, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 5.80 MYR

Wan Tan Ho @ Alu Alu Cafe - Jesselton Point

It must have been last week that I noticed the sign outside of Alu Alu Cafe boasting 'Best Wan Tan Ho in KK'. Now I've not eaten every Wan Tan Ho in KK, nowhere near, but I'd definitely like to eat the best! We were advised to share one dish, which was good advice as it was a fairly large portion. The dish comprised of stir fried rice noodles in an egg sauce with fresh fish slices and vegetables. Taste wise it was very good, the noodles had that savoury, hot wok taste and the large fish slices were nice and meaty. The big question though, was it the best? Well, I'm not sure about that, but what I can tell you is that ethically it probably is! All the fish served at Alu Alu Cafe is from sustainable farmed sources, and not plucked from the depleting fish reserves of our seas!

One of the information boards that adorn the walls of Alu Alu Cafe. Interesting reading and very alarming. There's also information regarding where the fish that you're eating inside the cafe originates - all from sustainable farmed organic sources, namely a fish farm in Tuaran.

Alu Alu Cafe is not only at the 5star resorts, you can now also find it at Jesselton Point.

The Bill : 1x Wan Tan Ho, 2x Chinese Teh Ping = 14 MYR

Plenty of tasty fish dishes that are not damaging our fragile seas!

Tandoori Chicken @ Restoran Salim - Lintas Plaza

Tandoori food in KK doesn't come much better than Restoran Salim in my opinion. It's a firm favourite of ours for their delicious naan bread and chicken. The Tandoori chicken set comes with a marinated, juicy chicken leg and choice of naan all cooked in a Tandoor oven, a spicy mint chutney and dhal. Simply fantastic! My only wish is that they would put chicken tikka back on the menu. I hope you're reading this Restoran Salim!

We both ordered the wonderful garlic naan. If you havn't tried the naan bread at Salim's you really should. A definite must try dish!

Layered teh tarik ping and ice lemon tea for drinks.

Restoran Salim is very popular and located at Lintas Plaza.

The Bill : 2x Tandoori Chicken Set, 1x Teh Tarik Ping, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 24.50 MYR

Lovers of Tandoori food should head to Salim's now!.....go on what are you waiting for???

Breakfast @ Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - Damai

If you take a breakfast set at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf between the hours of 8 and 11am you get the added bonus of free flow tea or coffee to sweeten the deal! Though taking a look at the size of The Little Nibbler's latte, I think one's probably enough for any mere mortal! We both chose eggs benedict for our breakfast this morning, a thick slice of sweet brioche came topped with possibly chicken or turkey ham, two perfectly poached eggs and finally smothered in a creamy hollandaise sauce, a simple dressed salad of lettuce and tomatoes was served on the side. Now this is no traditional eggs benedict, I have to say I found the addition of brioche slightly strange to this otherwise savoury dish but, like most things, I did enjoy it, though I doubt it will rival laksa as my favourite morning breakfast!!!

Drinks selection, English tea for me and a huge latte (3 MYR extra) for The Nibbler.

With several branches around town this is Damai's Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

The Bill : 2x Eggs Benedict Set = 39 MYR

If you love your coffee fix in the morning, head to Coffee Bean for breakfast!

Biryani Friday @ Maimunaah Food Corner - Api - Api Centre

This weeks 'Biryani Friday' comes from Mainumaah Food Corner. I didn't get too involved this week choosing sides etc and just ordered nasi biryani ayam with an iced teh tarik. A fried drumstick came with the rice, as well as a mild, light curry of cauliflower and carrot, a dish I wouldn't of picked as cauliflower isn't my favourite of vegetables, but it was actually really quite good. There was also an egg hiding in the biryani and a spoonful of curry gravy over the top, all in all a tasty and very filling meal. I think next time I would go for chicken curry instead of the fried drumstick, not that there was anything wrong with the drumstick, just my personal preference.

Mainumaah Food Corner is located in the Api - Api Centre. The man who seems to be running this operation deserves a special mention, as he quite literally, never stops! Taking orders, serving food, making rotis, collecting money and when he has a spare second cleaning down food surfaces, and always with a smile. It's funny the things you start to notice!

The Bill : 1x Nasi Biryani Ayam, 1x Teh Tarik Ping = 9 MYR

Good quality filling food!
