Banana Leaf Meal @ Sri Latha Curry House - Bandaran Berjaya

Sri Latha Curry House specialises in banana leaf meals, and on a Sunday biryani is available too, brilliant! It was hard to get a table, 2 large tables had been reserved, but we waited and luckily it wasn't too long before we were seated, let me tell you it was well worth the wait! I decided to have the fish fry set with biryani, the fish slice was fresh and delicious fried in a light covering of spices. The biryani was pretty good too, I had mine doused in fish curry gravy. With the banana leaf meal you also get a selection of four vegetable dishes, green beans, a green leafy vegetable, mildly spiced pumpkin and beansprouts with tofu, they all tasted wonderful. Now lets not forget the poppadoms, chutneys and rasam, which is a thin dahl soup, phew, what a meal!

The Little Nibbler had the spicy mutton curry set with biryani, big smiles all round! We really should eat here more often!

Sri Latha Curry House is located in Bandaran Berjaya, just around the corner from Sinario Cafe.

I'm going to stick my neck out here, Sri Latha Curry House = best banana leaf meal in KK!

Western Food @ Party Play Lifestyle Cafe - Jalan Gaya

Party Play are well placed in KK, but for me their Jalan Gaya branch is favourite, though I have to admit I've never set foot in 'Playground' at City Mall. Party Play Jalan Gaya occupies an old Chinese shop house with modern decor and live music, it's a great place to eat, drink, relax and catch up with friends. Tonight I opted for their club sandwich, a double decked messy affair with chicken, cheese, salad, fried egg and turkey ham, all bursting to escape the confines of their three layers of bread. Nacho chips come as a side, as well as Party Play's side salad, dressed with sesame that comes with everything!?! This would be my only complaint. I also ordered some waffle chips and extra mayo (which does cost extra).

Fish n Chips for The Little Nibbler, 2 pieces of fish fillet in a nice crispy batter served with chips, a dip and lemon slice, oh and of course that sesame dressed salad.

Party Play is easily located along Jalan Gaya.

The Bill : 1x Club Sandwich, 1x Fish n Chips, 1x Waffle Chips, 1x Mayo, 1x Calamansi Juice, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 63.10 MYR

Good food, great surroundings, that's Party Play @ Jalan Gaya!

Murtabak Ayam @ Kedai Makan Islamic Restoran - Centre Point

I've never been a big fan of murtabak, when I've eaten them before at night markets or hawker stalls they've always been too greasy and oily, not so at Kedai Makan Islamic Restoran I'm pleased to say, so now I can enjoy this Malaysian favourite too! For those that don't know murtabak is made from the ever versatile roti, stuffed with egg, vegetables and your choice of meat. It's very filling, so The Little Nibbler and I shared ayam murtabak for an early tea time snack. Curry sauce is served as a side so you can dip the murtabak for a nice spicy kick!

Kedai Makan Islamic Restoran is located in Centre Point's basement food court and is quite a regular haunt of mine!

The Bill : 1x Murtabak Ayam, 1x Teh Tarik, 1x Kopi C Ping = 9.70 MYR

Now I can enjoy murtabak too thanks to Kedai Makan Islamic Restoran!

Nasi Campur @ Fatimah Cafe - Tanjung Aru Plaza

Lunch today was at Fatimah Cafe, a busy eatery in Tanjung Aru. This was my first time eating here and after today I think it may well be a regular of my lunchtime venues! After having a good look at the nasi campur, I selected black pepper beef, stir fried four angled beans and aubergine. The food quality was top notch and tasted great. Aromatic black pepper sauce goes so well with beef along with onions and peppers, the four angled beans were cooked to perfection and still crisp and the aubergine was very tasty too, with (luckily for me) only a slight hint of belacan.
My top tip for eating nasi campur - eat early, the foods fresher and easier to get to!

Fatimah Cafe is located at the front entrance of Tanjung Aru Plaza, along Jalan Mat. Salleh.

The Bill : 1x Nasi Campur, 1x Ice Lemon Tea = 8 MYR

See you next week Fatimah Cafe!

Dosa & Nasi Lemak @ Salam's Curry House - Api - Api Centre

I had masala dosa in mind for breakfast this morning but unfortunately it wasn't available, so I had to settle for plain dosa instead. Salam's Curry House dosa is served with a delicious spicy, green coconut chutney and dahl. A nice, hot, frothy teh tarik is a great drink to accompany dosa in my humble opinion!

I also picked up a nasi lemak for a light lunch, tasty coconut rice with all the trimmings!

Salam's Curry House is located near the end of Api - Api Centre closest to Centre Point.

Banana leaf meals are also available @ Salam's.

The Bill : 1x Dosa, 1x Nasi Lemak, 1x Teh Tarik = 5 MYR

Heading back for a banana leaf meal soon!

Kuching Laksa @ Xin Soon Lee Restaurant - Damai

There's a bit of disruption at the moment in Damai, what with the groundworks going on along the central strip, I'm sure businesses must be struggling as the extensive outside seating isn't available. This didn't stop me from taking my breakfast at Xin Soon Lee Restaurant for a satisfying bowl of Kuching Laksa. The laksa here has a nice spicy kick, further enhanced by added sambal and kalamansi juice, the ingredients are fairly standard having prawns, chicken, omelette and beancurd puffs as well as rice noodles. I do love a hot bowl of laksa for breakfast!

Xin Soon Lee is located along Damai's hawker central, as I like to call it.

The Bill : 1x Kuching Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 8.20 MYR

Malaysian Portuguese Soul Food @ Cristao Cafe & Grill - Jalan Gaya

Cristao Cafe & Grill was brought to my attention by reading the freely distributed 'Delicious Sabah' found in many of the restaurants around town. Cristao serves Malaysian Portuguese fusion food, and if you like heavily spiced food I think you'll love Cristao Cafe & Grill.

I'm a sucker for hand me down recipes so anything with Auntie, Mom's or Granny in the title is going to catch my attention! So here we have Granny Meatball Curry, thankfully not made from Granny but ground beef and spices, I possibly had only one or two balls in my curry but fear not the balls had cooked down into the sauce giving a very meaty and very spicy curry. A cucumber and tomato salsa or salad are served as a side along with something called krill fritters and of course rice, which I have to say unfortunately was a little hard and dry on my visit, topped with a sunny side up. A very spicy and filling meal indeed!

The Little Nibbler opted for the Pulled Pork Burger. There seems to be a bit of a surge in pulled pork around KK at the moment, there's actually a 'Pulled Pork Triangle' around Jalan Gaya! Anyway back to the burger, Cristao's pulled pork is a very spicy affair, packed between a poppy seeded bun and salad, served with vegetable crisps and red cabbage salsa, definitely one for the meat lover.

Cristao Cafe & Grill is located just off Jalan Gaya where BB Cafe resides.

The Bill : 1x Granny Meatball Curry, 1x Pulled Pork Burger = 35.20 MYR

Cristao Cafe & Grill is for the spicy food lover inside!
