Thai Food @ BAAN Somtum - Cyber Square

I spotted this restaurant a few weeks back while exploring new areas to eat in. At the time the restaurant was closed but as we're both lovers of spicy food I thought it would be best to return at a later date with The Little Nibbler to sample its home cooked Thai food. So tonight here we are at BAAN Somtum, as the name suggests somtum, or spicy papaya/mango salad seems to be the house specialty along with several set meals, but we gave them a miss tonight and ordered a la carte. First up we ordered chicken phad ka pao, a fairly spicy concoction of chicken, onion, green beans and kaffir lime leaves, even though it was missing thai basil leaves, it was still very tasty, and maybe next time I'll ask for Thai spicy!

We also ordered tom kha kaii, a delicious coconut soup with chicken, this was simply the taste of Thailand, light and refreshing with chilli, corriander, lemongrass, galangal and coconut milk, yummy! We also ordered steam rice to accompany the meal. We both really enjoyed the meal and are looking forward to a return visit, infact I already know what I'm going to have!!!

Iced Thai milk tea and nescafe, both very sweet!

Baan Somtum is located in the fairly new shoplots at Cyber Square, just off Jalan Lintas. The restaurant is bright and spotlessly clean with friendly staff.

Breakfast @ Bomber's Burgers - Jalan Gaya

A burger for breakfast maybe a little strange for some people but for me, this morning, it was awesome! Last time I was in Bomber's Burgers the Barry James breakfast set caught my eye, now I have no idea who Barry James is but let me tell you, his burger is pretty dang tasty!!! Bomber's meaty beef patty is topped with beef bacon, sits on scrambled egg with chicken sausage, onion, lettuce and tomato, served between a bread roll and a nice serving of buttery hollandaise sauce comes on the side. This breakfast is strictly for hungry meat lovers!

Chorizo & Eggs for The Nibbler's breakfast, chunks of beef chorizo in perfectly scrambled eggs served with a choice of country style potatoes or hash browns, actually ordered the hash browns but got country style, never mind these were tasty enough but unfortunately on the cold side.

Drinks selection of ice lemon tea and ice coffee which comes with the breakfast set.

Inside Barry James!

Bomber's is easily located along Jalan Gaya, though parking is another matter, even more so on Sundays!

Pancakes @ Pancake House International - Kompleks Karamunsing

For those of you with a sweet tooth, Pancake House International should be on your radar. Serving seriously sweet American style pancakes, with a choice of two, three or stack size portion. I had three blueberry pancakes, dusted with icing sugar, topped with butter (I actually thought this was ice cream and ate a spoonful!!!) and served with blueberry syrup. Like I said, very sweet!

The Little Nibbler opted for two caramel banana walnut pancakes, as the photo shows, pancakes topped with caramel, banana and walnut pieces this also came with a serving of banana syrup and topped with whipped cream.

Chilli Chicken Naan & Bimbimbap @ Indian & Korean Stalls - Grace Point Food Court

The great thing about Grace Point Food Court is that every stall specialises in a different cuisine and has something different to offer from their adjoining stalls, a fact that other hawker centres around town should take note of, more often than not one stall offers an almost identical menu to the other! Anyway rant over, haha. I had a taste for Indian food tonight so headed straight to that stall, I fancied something different to my usual pick of tandoori chicken so opted for chilli chicken with naan bread. Now I was expecting a curry like dish but this was more, I would say, Chinese orientated, which I found quite strange! Apart from the mix up of cuisines I found the chilli chicken quite tasty, battered boneless chicken pieces in a fairly mild sauce, until I found a chilli slice! With onions and green peppers, mopped up with hot naan bread. Absolutely hit the spot for me tonight!

The Little Nibbler opted for one of Korea's signature dishes of bimbimbap, or mixed rice in English. Bimbimbap is served in a hot stone bowl. Cooked rice, shredded vegetables and meat with a dose of chilli are put inside the bowl and topped with a raw egg, now all you have to do is mix the contents to cook the egg and ingredients. In my opinion you should take your time mixing as this will produce nice crunchy bits forming around the bowl. Hot and satisfying!

Grace Point Food Court is located between Grace Villa and Grace Garden residences.

Honey Chicken Rice @ A1 Chicken Rice - Jalan Lintas

Super sweet and super tasty is what I've got to say about the Honey Chicken Rice I ate at A1 Chicken Rice earlier today. A1 specialises in, you guessed it, chicken rice and offers chicken cooked in a variety of ways. My BBQ chicken was sweet and smoky and covered in sesame seeds, delicious! The garlic infused rice was really good too, all round a very enjoyable meal, I'll be back for sure.

A1 Chicken Rice is located inside Kedai Kopi Taman Cantik along Jalan Lintas, it's on the same block as Kedai Kopi K.S.

The Bill : 1x Honey Chicken Rice, 1x Chinese Teh Ping = 6 MYR

Delicious chicken rice, infact it's A1!

Booze @ First Beach Cafe - Tanjung Aru

One of our favourite places to catch the famous KK sunset is at First Beach Cafe. Since its fairly recent refurbishment they've upped the availability of draught and bottled beer. We stuck to an old favourite of Skol to while away the hours. On friday evenings you can also catch the Fantabulous Lola doing 'her' thing!

Stunning views.

First Beach Cafe is located at ........ that's right, you guessed it!

The Bill : 3x Skol Bottle Set = 102 MYR

Beautiful sunsets, ice cold beer and the Fantabulous Lola - Fridays @ First Beach Cafe.

Booze & Pizza @ Bitz n' Pizzas - Marlin Roundabout

It wasn't so long ago that this restaurant was called Luigi Malones, it was open for a short while, then closed, refurbished, and then reopened with the new name of Bitz n' Pizzas. The menu is slightly different but the pizza is the same great taste, so I'm slightly confused about the name change?!? But hey, the pizza's tasty so who cares!

We decided to order a large pepperoni to share, I can only describe the pizza base as unique as I havn't eaten anything like it before, well apart from at Luigi Malones! It's light thin and crispy, just how I like a pizza base, topped with tomato sauce cheese and pepperoni, yummy!

We also ordered a side of fries, crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle with a good helping of salt.

On a hot sunny afternoon, sometimes only a beer will do! Or 2 or 3 possibly!!!

Bitz n' Pizzas is located along the promenade at the 'marlin roundabout'.

The Bill : 1x Large Pizza, 1x Fries, 6 Glass Tiger, 2 Glass Water = 101.15 MYR

Great pizza and ice cold beer, I can think of worse ways to start the weekend!

Masala Dosa @ Devi's Cafe - Api Api Centre

Devi's Cafe is well known for it's banana leaf meals, I was there this morning for breakfast so i thought I'd give their Masala Dosa a try. A dosa is a south Indian pancake made from fermented rice and lentil batter giving it a slight sour taste, the masala part refers to the mildly spiced potato 'stuffing' inside the dosa. Devi's serve the dish with two thin dahls and a spicy coconut chutney, this was a very filling, tasty breakfast and reminded me of my travels in India, wonderful!

Devi's is located at Api - Api Centre.

The Bill : 1x Masala Dosa, 1x Teh Tarik = 6 MYR
