BBQ Pork & Wine Sauce Chicken Noodles @ Hong Kong Recipe - Warisan Square

I wandered into Hong Kong Recipe today, unaware of their lunchtime promotion! With 9 sets to choose from, there's plenty of choice. I opted for Set B - BBQ Pork & Wine Sauce Chicken Noodles. The star of the show was definitely the BBQ Pork, sweet and smoky! The Wine Sauce Chicken was soft and smooth, though not too sure I could taste the wine! The noodles were kon lau mee style and needed a bit of mixing to separate them, also on the plate was a small portion of green veg. At first I wasn't too impressed with this dish but it certainly grew on me with each mouthful of BBQ pork!
Now the Herbal Jelly confused me, is it a starter or dessert??? I had a little bit at the beginning and some at the end, and it tasted, well....herbal! Not really my thing I'm afraid!!!
When you look at the breakdown of the meal below, apparently the soup is 4.80 MYR. I think they would struggle to get anybody to pay this amount of money for a soup which normally comes free of charge in most places, a little bit of menu fixing I think! But all in all, it was a very enjoyable meal indeed!

Hong Kong Recipe is located in Warisan Square.

The Bill : 1x BBQ Pork & Wine Sauce Chicken Noodle Set = 10.90 MYR

Plenty of choice for a promotion lunch @ Hong Kong Recipe!

Burgers @ KK Burger Bakar - Food Court Tg Aru Plaza

Recently opened KK Burger Bakar is a must go destination for lovers of quality, home made burgers using the freshest of ingredients. The beef patty is big, thick and juicy, it's barbecued as you wait so you know it's fresh. There's about 6 different burgers to choose from, including the monster triple decker shown above.

We had the Titanic Burger which comes with black pepper sauce and cheese, not only that it also includes salad, mayo, chilli sauce, beef bacon and pineapple! Wow!!! All for the very fair price of 9 MYR.
I have to say I loved every mouthful of this burger, though The Little Nibbler thought it was a little sloppy, but for me the sloppier the better!!!

KK Burger Bakar is located at the hawker centre behind Tanjung Aru Plaza, open 7 evenings a week.

The Bill : 2x Titanic Burger = 18 MYR

It's definitely time to give Burglar King and the Evil Clown a miss here in KK! Get your evening burger fix here @ KK Burger Bakar and your daytime fix @ Aloha Burger.

Kuching Laksa @ Kedai Kopi Kinabalu - Jalan Gaya

I may have a problem, I think I'm addicted to Laksa! In search of a new fix I stumbled across Kedai Kopi Kinabalu, where they serve a fabulous Kuching Laksa, I have to say, that from my first visit this Laksa is right up there with the best! Only time will tell if, after more visits and continual approval by me, that it could rank with the likes of Kedai Kopi Yee Fung and Success Delicatessen Shop, which at the moment are my two very favourite Laksa Places! Leave a comment and tell me yours!

The Laksa was full of great ingredients in a wonderful spicy soup ......... Mmmmm I think I want another one!

Kedai Kopi Kinabalu isn't strictly on Jalan Gaya, it's actually a block back, behind Fong Ip Cafe.

The Bill : 1x Laksa, 1x Teh C Ping = 7 MYR

Another winning Laksa in the heart of KK!

Roti Kobra @ Kolombong Fish Head Curry & Caffe - Api - Api Centre

As I'm not brave enough to eat Fish Head Curry, I'd previously visited Kolombong Fish Head Curry & Caffe for their Fish Slice Curry and Biryani, which I have to say was delicious! Not feeling so hungry today I noticed that they do one of my favourite dishes here in KK, Roti Kobra, so I thought I'd give it a try. I normally have this dish at Kedai Makan Islamic Restoran, located in Centre Point, so the first thing I noticed, was that they place the roti on top! Here they serve the dish with chicken curry on the bottom, then the fried egg, topped with the roti, controversial I say! But hey, when food tastes this good who cares? The chicken curry was nice and spicy, the egg, nice and runny and the roti, crispy and chewy, perfect! I'll be popping back again for this!

Kolombong Fish Head Curry & Caffe is located at the end of Api - Api Centre closest to Warisan Plaza.

The Bill : 1x Roti Kobra, 1x Teh Tarik Ping = 6.50 MYR

Loving the Roti Cobra @ Kolombong Fish Head Curry, their Biryani is excellent too!

Kari Laksa @ Kedai Kopi Yu Kee - Hilltop

Our Laksa arrived shortly after we finished our Dim Sum, perfect timing!!! The Kari Laksa at Kedai Kopi Yu Kee is very mild and creamy, no chicken or omelette strips here just seafood, namely prawns and fish cake slices. The sambal helps spice things up a bit, actually the sambal is very much too my taste here, not too heavy on the belacan and quite zesty.

Busy, busy, busy!

The Bill 2x Laksa = 10 MYR

A tasty mild Laksa with delicious Dim Sum, I love Sundays!

Dim Sum @ Foo Phing Dim Sum - Hilltop

On Sunday mornings we like to eat Dim Sum or go for Laksa, luckily at Hilltop we can have both with Foo Phing Dim Sum and Kedai Kopi Yu Kee being located in close proximity to each other. The area between the two rows of shops transforms into a lively food court packed with hungry diners and Dim Sum vendors pushing their carts to waiting customers. It's a great spot for breakfast with a buzzing atmosphere and delicious Dim Sum!

Fish Ball.

I'm really not sure of all the names of Dim Sum but these had the classic combination of prawn and pork.

These where my favourite on the day, pork ribs with chilli and black bean, tender and very tasty.

Foo Phing Dim Sum viewed from the road. Parking can be a real problem!

The Bill : 3x Dim Sum, 1x Teh C Ping, 1x Kopi C Ping = 13.90 MYR

Geat atmosphere, great food, Sunday breakfast doesn't get much better!

Western Food @ Chilli Vanilla - Downtown

Back at Chilli Vanilla today for a late lunch/early dinner??? Feeling hungry I ordered the Hungarian Goulash which sounded nice and filling, beef stew with potatoes, Hungarian paprika, handmade pasta and freshly baked bread. Though it tasted fantastic, the beef was so tender from an obvious lengthy cooking time, the portion did little to dent my hunger. More potatoes or thicker chunks of bread are needed to make it a more satisfying meal. Also I couldn't find the handmade pasta only a few pieces of orzo, I think thats what it's called, which is a rice shaped pasta. I must stress though it was very tasty!

The Little Nibbler opted for the Cheesy Chicken Sandwhich, a tasty sandwich of grilled chicken, melted cheese, tatar sauce topped with a sunnyside up. The freshly baked bread is a real hit with the nibbler!
We also took advantage of happy hour and had a leisurely glass or two of house white wine!

The cakes are also really delicious at Chilli Vanilla, the Carrot Cake and Chocolate Brownie took our fancy. The Chocolate Brownie won our Vote!

Chilli Vanilla has nice clean decor and very friendly staff.

The Bill : 1x Hungarian Goulash, 1x Cheesy Chicken, 2x Cake, 4x White Wine = 107.10 MYR

Great food at Chilli Vanilla, they just need to carb that Goulash up! Haha

Laksa @ Kampung Nelayan -Taman Tun Fuad Stephens

I don't know why but I had high hopes for my breakfast this morning from Kampung Nelayan. Maybe it was the 6MYR price tag for Laksa and the impressive picture on the menu 'for illustration purposes only' (I have to add). But the Laksa was definitely lacking, and one thing in particular........prawns! For 6 dollars I expect more than 2 prawns in my Laksa! (I counted 5 on the menu, 'for illustration purposes only' and that wasn't the whole bowl!) Slightly misleading I think!!! But what you did get was a large bowl of dark, spicy soup with lots of noodles, beancurd puffs, shredded chicken and omelette. Taste wise though, it was just ok and unfortunately lacked that wow factor you get with a well cooked Laksa.

Kampung Nelayan is located at Taman Tun Fuad Stephens, Bukit Padang. On a positive note I must add that the restaurant is very nice and atmospheric, I'm sure it's lovely in the evenings, also the staff are very smart, friendly and attentive.

The Bill : 1x Laksa, 1x Kit Chai Ping = 8.30MYR

I think I'll stick to Coffee Shops for my Laksa fix in future, but I'm not going to write Kampung Nelayan off, as a great actor once said 'I'll be back'

Stir Fry Pick 'n' Mix @ See Below - Central Market

Well I don't know what to call this type of food stall, so I'm calling it 'Stir Fry Pick 'n' Mix', I'm sure it has a proper name and if you know it, please leave a comment and let me know. Basically you choose your ingredients from a range of fresh vegetables, meat and seafood and the lady in charge of the wok will do the rest! The Char Sui always looks good at this stall so I picked that along with Chinese sausage, leek and choy sum. My selection turned up at the table, piping hot, with nasi putih, broth and free flow Chinese teh and water. Simple, tasty and cheap!

The stall's run by two ladies, one on the wok, the other on the 'Pick 'n' Mix'. There's no name shown on the stall but you can find it on the first floor of the Central Market, if you come up the staircase closest to Jalan Pejabat Pos Besar it's on your right hand side along with a similar stall. The surroundings may not be the finest but the fresh, well cooked food more than makes up for it!

The Bill : 1x Stir Fry Pick 'n' Mix = 4.5 MYR

If you're looking for cheap, tasty, freshly cooked food, you've found it!

Chicken Rice @ Hing's Corner Chicken Rice - Suria Food Court

Chicken Rice was the order of the day today. Remembering that Hing's Corner was pretty good the first time around (pre-blog) I thought I'd give it another try! With steam Chicken, honey Chicken and gizzards on offer I decided to go for a mix (without the gizzards I have to add!) Both types of Chicken were very good indeed though for me the honey BBQ was the tastiest with it's sweet, smoky flavour. The rice is pretty tasty too, I almost ordered satu lagi, it was that good! Ginger, Chilli and Sweet Soy are great accompaniments to go with this delicious dish all washed down with an Ice Milo, perfect!

Entrance to the food court at Suria Sabah, on the third floor.

Queues starting to form.

Jesselton Residences watch!

The Bill : 1x Mix Chicken Rice, 1x Ice Milo = 8.50 MYR

With lots of choice Suria Food Court is a great option, along with Hing's Corner Yummy Chicken Rice!
